About the Organization - George Howell Coffee is a specialty coffee roaster with several cafes in and around Greater Boston and a roastery in Acton, MA. We are growing rapidly and offer opportunity for individuals to join our team. At George Howell Coffee, we believe every cup tells a story. Our coffees are sourced from the highest quality farmers, roasted to highlight their inherent terroir, and brewed to precision. We operate as a coffee roaster and have 5 cafes in the Greater Boston area. Founded in 2004, after selling his 24 original cafes 'The Coffee Connection' to Starbucks, George Howell has dedicated his life to specialty coffee. He is a 50-year veteran of the industry, and often referred to as the 'Godfather' of specialty coffee and the third wave movement.

Description - Experienced barista with the ability to serve coffee and espresso beverages in a consistent manner and according to recipes. Must have the ability to provide quality customer service and demonstrate a knowledge of coffee products, brew methods, equipment, and tea products. Responsible for serving all products with friendly, individualized attention toward each customer.

Core Tasks:

• Ensure customers are warmly received and welcomed and engaged in sincere and friendly conversation.
• Respond to questions/orders/concerns in a professional manner.
• Anticipates customer and store needs by constantly evaluating the environment and customers for clues.
• Facilitate easy dialogue regarding product offerings with customers.
• Actively participate in training sessions to advance your coffee education.
• Craft beverages that adhere to the company's quality standards.
• Communicates effectively with customers and co-workers.
• Responds proactively to prevent negative customer service situations.
• Accurately rings sales orders into POS system and counts back change to the customers in a courteous and friendly manner.
• Restocks retail shelves when necessary.
• Routinely cleans the bar area (do not forget the steam wand), retail shelving, floors, windows, grinders, vacuums, and takes out the trash.

Requirements:

• Knowledge: Experience as a server.
• Skills: Skilled at latte art or willing to learn.
• Abilities: Contagious energy that sets a positive example for other employees. Maintains a calm demeanor during periods of high stress. Self-motivated, learns quickly, and multitasks efficiently. Maintains punctual and consistent attendance.
• Physical Characteristics: Maintain stationary (e.g., standing) for extended periods of time frequently and be on your feet for up to 8 hours per shift. Move around the café throughout the day assisting staff and customers, as well as performing shift responsibilities constantly. Move and lift supplies, equipment, boxes, and other items up to 50 pounds from the floor to shelves, under the counter, and up a set of stairs frequently. Shift position in multiple directions to work all stations in the kitchen and behind the counter in the front of the house. Reach items under counter and overhead on shelves frequently. Tolerate exposure to cleaning solutions frequently.
• Tools Used: Coffee Brewer, Espresso Machine, Cash Register.
• Environmental Factors: Indoor fast-paced café setting.
• Credentials/Experience: Experience as a barista for 1+ years. Ability to serve coffee and espresso beverages in a consistent manner according to recipes.
• Other Requirements: Weekends required.
