Job Description
The Mission Critical Superintendent oversees the on-site execution of complex, high-reliability construction projects, ensuring that schedule discipline, quality, and system performance remain the highest priorities. This role leads all field operations—including civil, structural, architectural, and MEP—while working closely with Project Managers and MEP leadership to deliver facilities designed for continuous operation and zero tolerance for failure. The Superintendent sets the pace, culture, and expectations on site, driving safe, efficient work from mobilization through final turnover and contributing to a collaborative, people-focused construction environment with strong opportunities for career growth and development.
Responsibilities
- Lead all day-to-day field operations for mission critical construction projects, ensuring work progresses safely and efficiently.
- Manage and coordinate site development, core and shell construction, and building envelope activities to meet quality, schedule, and safety standards.
- Establish and maintain site logistics plans, phasing strategies, and workforce coordination to optimize productivity and minimize disruption.
- Maintain full ownership of jobsite execution, monitoring productivity, enforcing accountability, and driving continuous improvement.
- Champion a safety-first culture across all trades and scopes of work, ensuring safety is integrated into every aspect of field operations.
- Conduct regular safety inspections, audits, and daily safety planning to identify and mitigate hazards.
- Enforce rigorous quality standards across structural, architectural, and MEP work, ensuring all installations meet project specifications and performance requirements.
- Coordinate complex construction sequencing across multiple scopes to support mission critical systems and minimize risk to continuous operations.
- Partner closely with MEP Superintendents and Project Managers to manage system integration risks and ensure seamless coordination of building systems.
- Support system readiness, testing, commissioning, and turnover activities as required to achieve reliable, high-performance facility operations.
- Develop and maintain detailed construction schedules and look-ahead plans, aligning field activities with project milestones and client expectations.
- Lead subcontractor coordination meetings and pull-planning sessions to align trade partners, resolve conflicts, and drive schedule adherence.
- Identify schedule risks early, communicate potential impacts, and implement mitigation strategies to keep the project on track.
- Lead, mentor, and support Assistant Superintendents and field staff, fostering professional development and strong team performance.
- Build strong trade partner relationships based on accountability, trust, and collaborative problem solving.
- Promote a culture of ownership, collaboration, and continuous improvement across the project team and trade partners.
- Collaborate with project management, engineering, and design teams to resolve field issues, RFIs, and change orders effectively.
- Ensure project documentation related to field activities, RFIs, and change orders is accurate, timely, and aligned with project requirements.
- Support coordination of data center, mission critical, and high-tech project requirements, including specialized systems and performance criteria.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support successful project delivery and team objectives.
Essential Skills
- At least 7 years of experience as a Superintendent on large, complex commercial or mission critical construction projects.
- Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary field teams in high-pressure, fast-paced environments.
- Strong understanding of construction sequencing, logistics, and risk management for complex facilities.
- Experience in project management and construction management, including coordination of civil, structural, architectural, and MEP scopes.
- Demonstrated ability to manage RFIs, change orders, and project documentation in a commercial construction setting.
- Experience working on data center, mission critical, or high-tech projects as a Superintendent.
- Solid project scheduling skills, including development and maintenance of detailed schedules and look-ahead plans.
- Strong Experience in project coordination and project engineering within commercial construction.
- Excellent leadership skills with the ability to mentor and support Assistant Superintendents and field staff.
- Outstanding communication skills to work effectively in a team setting with project managers, MEP leaders, trade partners, and stakeholders.
- Highly punctual and reliable, with a strong sense of responsibility and accountability.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in managing multiple scopes and trades simultaneously.
- Ability to work alongside MEP leaders on technically complex projects, coordinating system integration and commissioning activities.
- Capacity to operate effectively in demanding environments with schedule and performance pressures.
Additional Skills & Qualifications

- Experience in engineering, construction management, or a related technical discipline is beneficial.
- Familiarity with design coordination and collaboration with project engineering teams.
- Ability to facilitate subcontractor coordination meetings and pull-planning sessions.
- Skill in building strong relationships with trade partners based on accountability and trust.
- Commitment to promoting a culture of ownership, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Strong problem-solving abilities to address field issues and technical challenges quickly and effectively.
- Comfort working with project management tools and performance tools that clarify expectations and responsibilities.
- Interest in ongoing professional development supported by continuing education reimbursement and annual performance reviews.
- Alignment with a culture that values community involvement, team-building events, and local volunteer opportunities.
- Ability to thrive in a growing company environment with a structured bonus program and employee ownership.
- Professional demeanor suited to a family-friendly, positive, and collaborative work environment.

The Superintendent role is primarily field-based, with responsibilities carried out at a project site in Mesa and coordination activities supported by an office in Scottsdale. Work is mainly performed outdoors in various weather conditions, with exposure to health and safety hazards typical of active construction sites, including noise levels ranging from moderate to loud. The environment is demanding and fast paced, and the number of hours worked in a typical week may exceed 40, reflecting the critical nature of the projects. Work location may change or vary, and travel may be required to support different projects. The organization offers a positive, collaborative, and family-friendly work environment, with a strong focus on health and wellness, work-life balance, and community engagement. Employee owners benefit from comprehensive medical, dental, and vision plans with HSA options, paid parental leave, seven paid holidays plus three floating holidays, a paid birthday off, service awards with paid sabbaticals and milestone bonuses, healthy lifestyle rewards, and a variety of team-building events and local volunteer opportunities.
