Community Relations Coordinator

Position Title: Community Relations Coordinator Reports to: Director of Operations Organization Description: The Indiana Statewide Independent Living Council (INSILC) works with people with disabilities and Centers for Independent Living to advance independent living across Indiana. Guided by the Independent Living philosophy, INSILC supports consumer control, peer support, self-determination, equal access, and individual and systems advocacy. The Council develops and monitors the State Plan for Independent Living (SPIL) and invites public input to inform its work. Position Summary: The Community Relations Coordinator helps people across Indiana learn about and participate in INSILC’s work. The coordinator maintains outreach contacts, builds relationships with community partners, supports accessible public meetings and events, manages day-to-day social media, and prepares communications and engagement reports. The position works closely with the Director of Operations and supports INSILC committees and workgroups. This is a full-time position. Preferred Candidate Qualifications ·Experience with community outreach, relationship building, event coordination, or nonprofit communications. ·Strong writing and editing skills for email, newsletters, websites, and social media. ·Experience creating and scheduling content for Facebook and LinkedIn and reviewing basic performance measures. ·Familiarity with disability communities, the Independent Living philosophy, and accessible communications. ·Experience gathering community feedback and organizing contact, event, or participation data. Key Functions and ResponsibilitiesStatewide Outreach and Partnerships ·Build relationships with people with disabilities, Centers for Independent Living, community organizations, public agencies, legislators, local governments, and partners statewide. ·Maintain accurate, organized contact and outreach lists; use them to invite appropriate audiences to town halls, public meetings, listening sessions, and other opportunities. ·Represent INSILC at community events and partner meetings; share accurate information, respond to inquiries, and connect people with appropriate staff or resources. ·Track outreach, partnerships, inquiries, commitments, and follow-up; identify communities that have had fewer opportunities to participate. Public Meetings and Community Input ·Coordinate assigned logistics for virtual, hybrid, and in-person public meetings and events using INSILC’s meeting checklist, including schedules, registration, materials, reminders, and follow-up. ·Arrange requested accessibility supports, such as CART and ASL interpreting, in coordination with the Director of Operations and vendors. ·Post event information to the website; prepare accessible materials and targeted invitations; organize and document public comments and other feedback. ·Support listening sessions, focus groups, surveys, and other ways to hear from community members; summarize what participants shared for staff and Council review. Social Media and Communications ·Draft, edit, schedule, publish, and monitor Facebook and LinkedIn posts through established review and approval processes. ·Create accessible content and support email messages, newsletters, blog posts, outreach materials, presentations, and media communications as assigned. ·Maintain consistent, accurate messaging across channels; track basic reach and engagement measures and recommend improvements. Committee and Workgroup Support ·Schedule meetings, send invitations and reminders, and coordinate meeting access and materials for assigned committees and workgroups. ·Attend meetings as needed, record notes and action items, send follow-up communications, and track assigned next steps. Records and Reporting ·Maintain orderly records of contacts, events, participation, public input, outreach, and partner activities in INSILC’s systems. ·Prepare concise summaries of participation, feedback, partnerships, and communications results to support reporting and future planning. Minimum Qualifications ·Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and respectfully with people with diverse disabilities and backgrounds. ·Strong organization, follow-through, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple deadlines. ·Ability to work independently and collaboratively, including with Council members, Centers for Independent Living, and community partners. ·Ability to use common office, virtual meeting, contact management, and digital communication tools. ·Bachelor’s degree preferred. Relevant paid work, volunteer work, and community experience will be considered when assessing other qualifications. Working Conditions ·Full-time employment with in-state travel and occasional evening or weekend meetings and events. ·Hybrid or remote work arrangement. ·INSILC provides reasonable accommodations for the application process and essential job functions.
