Department Overview

Occupational Health Services Clinic

We are seeking a Medical Director for Occupational Medicine within our Department of Medicine. This leadership role entails overseeing a clinical team and managing all licensed healthcare providers on staff. The position involves providing outpatient services to our employees, as well as to the City and County of Denver and other clients. Our Center for Occupational Safety & Health (COSH) is affiliated with the Association of Occupational and Environmental Clinics (AOEC). The collaboration between our organization and the University of Colorado School of Public Health includes a shared residency program and an ACGME-accredited fellowship. Our provider team comprises approximately 2.4 FTE providers, 1.0 FTE physical therapists, one chiropractor, and a full complement of allied and support staff.

Key Responsibilities

This role consists of 0.2 FTE dedicated to administrative tasks, with the remainder focused on clinical duties involving direct patient care. The distribution of responsibilities is based on a 1.0 FTE; if the position is less than full-time, clinical hours will be adjusted accordingly while maintaining the 0.2 FTE for administrative tasks. Administrative duties must be performed on-site as needed to ensure adequate clinic staffing and supervision of advanced practice providers and residents.

• 20% - Provide direct supervision to physicians, nurse practitioners, residents, fellows, students, chiropractors, and physical therapists.

• 40% - Maintain an active practice in occupational medicine.

• 5% - Engage in clinical quality initiatives aimed at enhancing patient experience, safety, clinical outcomes, and operational efficiency while ensuring fiscal responsibility.

• 5% - Collaborate with the Director of Service to oversee clinical team operations, focusing on productivity, quality of care, patient satisfaction, and staff engagement.

• 5% - Monitor and align team performance with the strategic goals of the organization.

• 5% - Assist in the recruitment of clinical professionals.

• 5% - Work with risk management for major clients (currently including our organization and the City of Denver) to identify injury trends and develop best practices in line with state medical treatment guidelines for Workers' Compensation.

• 15% - Oversee Occupational Health initiatives and collaborate across departments on projects such as Tuberculosis surveillance for high-risk positions, latent TB monitoring for employees, readiness of the Hazardous Materials Emergency Response Team, vaccination protocols for the High-Risk Infection Team, and coordination with the City and County of Denver regarding Operating Agreement content.

Qualifications and Experience

• Doctorate in Medicine or Osteopathic Medicine from an accredited institution: required.

• Board Eligible/Certified in Occupational Medicine, Internal Medicine, Family Practice, Sports Medicine, Emergency Medicine, or another relevant specialty: required.

• Level II Certification at the time of hire is mandatory.

• Experience in leadership and management is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• In-depth understanding of Colorado Workers' Compensation Medical treatment guidelines.

• Ability to effectively manage and guide medical support activities while delivering high-quality care.

• Strong verbal communication skills for receiving and conveying detailed information.

• Ability to engage effectively with individuals from diverse educational, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds.

Education Requirements

• Doctorate Degree Required

• Postgraduate Diploma or Certificate Program Board Eligible/Certified in Occupational Medicine, Internal Medicine, Family Practice, Sports Medicine, Emergency Medicine, or another relevant specialty: required.

• Post High School Diploma or Certificate Program from the Colorado Division of Workers' Compensation: required.

Work Experience

• A minimum of 3 years of clinical experience in occupational health, demonstrating leadership capabilities and involvement in clinic-level initiatives or oversight of advanced practice providers: required.

• BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross: required.
