Registered Nurse (RN) - Adult Psych

Location: Kansas City, MO

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team in the Adult Psychiatric unit. The ideal candidate will possess the ability to assess and manage patients' mental health needs effectively while providing high-quality care in a collaborative environment.

Unit Specifics:

• Number of Beds: ADOL: 18 beds, Serenity: 24 beds, ITU: 32 beds, SRAD: 16 beds, VINE: 9 beds
• Patient Ratios: Nurses 8 to 1, Mental Health Technicians 12 to 1
• Unit Details: ADOL: Patients aged 12-18 years, Serenity: Lower acuity adult unit, ITU: Higher acuity adult unit with patients diagnosed with thought disorders, SRAD: Patients who lead a senior lifestyle, VINE: Lower acuity adult unit
• Documentation System: Meditech
• Coverage Requirements: Three 12-hour shifts each day, seven days a week, including weekends
• Floating Policy: Utilized where the greatest need exists
• Patient Experience Requirements: Commitment to ICARE values (Integrity, Compassion, Always, Respect) and AIDET communication standards (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, Thank You)

Responsibilities:

• Assess patients' mental health status, identifying signs of psychiatric disorders and behavioral issues
• Develop individualized care plans tailored to the unique needs of patients
• Administer psychiatric medications and monitor for side effects or adverse reactions
• Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques for patients in distress
• Build trust and rapport with patients through effective therapeutic communication
• Monitor patients for physical and psychological symptoms, including vital signs and mental status changes

Qualifications:

• Active Blue Card CPI Certification
• Current BLS Certification
• Experience in psychiatric nursing preferred
• Strong communication, assessment, and critical thinking skills

Dress Code: Required uniform includes navy blue scrubs for nurses, while Mental Health Technicians wear green or black scrubs.
