Overview Steel Estimator (miscellaneous steel) for a well-established steel fabrication and erection company. The role focuses on providing accurate and competitive estimates for miscellaneous metals to support project acquisition and execution. Job Details We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Steel Estimator to join our team. This position emphasizes miscellaneous steel projects within construction operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in steel and miscellaneous metals, and a proven track record in project estimation. Responsibilities Analyses blueprints and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates. Assess cost effectiveness of products, projects or services, tracking actual costs relative to bids as the project develops. Consult with clients, vendors, personnel in other departments or construction foremen to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues. Conduct special studies to develop standard hour and related cost data or to effect cost reduction. Review material and labor requirements to decide whether it is more cost-effective to produce or purchase components. Prepare estimates for use in selecting vendors or subcontractors. Accurately input costs for proposals and generate detailed estimates from drawings for small to large miscellaneous metal projects. Qualifications Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Steel Estimator or in a similar role in the construction industry. Extensive knowledge and experience with steel and miscellaneous metals. Proficiency in blueprint reading and project estimation. Ability to determine material and labor costs accurately. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and negotiation skills. Keen eye for detail and a results-driven approach. Proficiency in using computer software for developing estimates. A degree in a relevant field is preferred. Certification from a recognized professional body is a plus.
