Bookkeeper and Payroll Specialist

We are seeking a detail-oriented, reliable Part-Time Bookkeeper to support our CPA firm in serving small business and other business accounting clients. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, assisting with day-to-day bookkeeping tasks, and helping ensure timely, organized financial reporting for multiple clients. The ideal candidate has formal accounting knowledge, strong attention to detail, and hands‑on experience with bookkeeping systems and reconciliations. A CPA license is not required. Responsibilities Maintain accurate bookkeeping records for multiple business clients. Record and categorize financial transactions in accounting software. Reconcile bank, credit card, and loan accounts on a regular basis. Reconcile e‑commerce and merchant accounts on a regular basis. Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable processing, including invoice entry and payment tracking. Prepare and review monthly financial reports, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules. Organize and maintain digital financial records and source documents. Communicate with internal team members and clients to request missing information and clarify transactions. Help identify bookkeeping discrepancies and escalate issues as needed. Support month‑end and year‑end close processes. Assist with payroll, sales tax, or 1099‑related tasks, if applicable. Required Qualifications Formal accounting knowledge through an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in accounting, bookkeeping, finance, or a related field; or equivalent coursework/certification. 2+ years of bookkeeping, accounting support, or related experience. Understanding of basic accounting principles, including debits/credits, reconciliations, and financial statement support. Proficiency with accounting software such as QuickBooks Online, QuickBooks Desktop, Xero, and similar platforms. Knowledge of merchant platform accounting and reporting is required. (Ex. Shopify, Amazon, eBay, etc.) Strong Excel and general Microsoft Office skills. High attention to detail, accuracy, and strong organizational skills. Ability to manage deadlines and handle multiple client accounts in a professional environment. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment. Hourly – Up to $30/hr depending on experience Some availability during 9-5 work hours in EST time zone is required.
