Job Title: RN - PCU Profession: RN Specialty: Progressive Care Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: 12hr Night Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum 18 months of PCU RN experience License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Experience with tracheostomies Cardiac medication administration Cardiac rhythm interpretation Chest tube management Blood product administration Wound care and dressing changes Management of central lines Description: Registered Nurse position in a Progressive Care Unit. The unit consists of 32 beds. Care for patients not requiring mechanical ventilation. Common diagnoses include CHF, dysrhythmias, chest pain work-ups, strokes, abdominal illnesses, infections, respiratory illnesses, diabetes, acute kidney injury, chronic kidney disease, alcohol withdrawal, and intravenous drug use. Typical patient ratios are 1:4, with potential for 1:5 depending on patient acuity. CNA support is available for activities of daily living during day shifts. Charge nurse assists with all nursing care. Phlebotomy services are available, outside of nurse draws. Respiratory Therapy is available 24/7. Hospitalist and intensivist services are also available 24/7. Telemetry monitoring is provided at the bedside and in the nursing station. Electronic medical record system used is EPIC. IV pumps and medication dispensing systems are utilized. Floating may occur within the region and scope of practice. Standard weekend rotation is every other week. Travelers are expected to work 75% of holidays. RTO may be approved for up to 6 days off, excluding holidays. Schedule cycles occur every 6 weeks. Unit culture is family-oriented. Scrub color required is navy.
