Role Summary This position is for a hands‑on Field Service Technician who will support Rivian vehicle repairs. The role requires a collaborative, team‑oriented individual capable of working in a dynamic, fast‑paced environment. While the role is based in a primary location, it may require operating remotely or traveling to various locations, including the production plant, to provide vehicle support as business needs demand. This job description outlines the full spectrum of skills required, and candidates will be assessed against this spectrum to determine the appropriate level for their expertise. Responsibilities Perform or assist with assigned vehicle diagnosis, repairs, installations, and inspections, whether at a service center or in the field directly at customer homes, businesses, or other convenient locations. Identify and explain the Rivian product line, EV framework, tools, and accessories. Utilize available technical resources to follow Rivian repair procedures efficiently without compromising quality or safety. Conduct road tests to ensure the quality of repairs. Manage necessary parts operations, including ordering, receiving, shipping, and inventory. Identify areas of improvement and provide feedback to senior technicians or leadership. Support service campaigns and containment initiatives. Ensure that all work and technical notes are properly documented for internal and external use. Work collaboratively with a team spirit and maintain high‑quality work with minimal supervision. Communicate with a high level of professionalism in customer‑facing situations. Stay current with technical skills and complete required training. Perform physical tasks such as lifting up to 50 lbs., sitting, standing, walking, and frequent use of hands for grasping tools and data entry; may require frequent bending, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 50 lbs. Qualifications High School Diploma, GED, or other recognized high school equivalency credential required. Proficient in using hand tools and power tools. Must be at least 21 years old. Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a clean driving record, with no driving‑related suspensions or revocations within a 3‑5 year period. Ability to drive a non‑commercial truck and trailer is preferred. Must be available for a 40‑hour work week, which may include weekends, holidays, and shifts during early morning, evening, or overnight hours based on business needs. Proficient with laptops or computers in Windows or Mac environments. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and an eagerness to learn. Ability to read and speak fluent English. Ability to see, read and interpret documents such as governmental regulations, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions or schematics. This role may require regular interaction with customers and their families, 3rd‑party affiliates, and suppliers within Rivian facilities, on mobile service routes, or at community outreach events. Experience Hands‑on work experience in an automotive shop is highly preferred; however, if you are a recent automotive graduate looking for your next opportunity, we encourage you to apply. Experience in start‑up environments is preferred. Experience with parts departments, billing, and work order management systems is preferred. Spectrum of Technical Skills Low Voltage & Electrical Systems: Foundational understanding of basic electricity theory and ability to safely use a DVOM for various circuit measurements. Proficiency includes reading and leveraging electrical schematics as a diagnostic resource; advanced candidates can diagnose complex faults and perform wiring repairs according to manufacturer standards. High Voltage Systems: Core requirement is understanding the risks involved with high voltage systems and the ability to safely power them down and work on them using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). Highly skilled technicians can diagnose complex high‑voltage faults related to charging, isolation, and interlock loop issues using manufacturer diagnostic processes. Chassis, Brakes & Suspension: Proficiency in fundamental chassis service, including mounting and balancing tires, performing vehicle alignments, and replacing brake system components. Ability to diagnose mechanical suspension components and repair advanced vehicle dynamic issues such as NVH. Thermal Systems: Ability to service vehicle thermal systems, perform coolant drain‑and‑fill, safely handle refrigerant with a 609 certification, and use an A/C machine to diagnose a range of thermal system concerns. Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS): Working knowledge of ADAS features and operation. Expected to replace system components, perform necessary calibrations, and understand overall system functionality and sensor roles. Body & Glass: Responsibilities include glass removal and installation, windshields and other glazed body fixtures, adjustment of body panels to tolerances, and diagnosing wind noise and water leaks. Night Shift: Hours vary by location. Field Service Technicians on the night shift receive a 15% hourly shift differential on top of base hourly pay between 6 PM and 6 AM. Pay Disclosure The hourly range for this role is $26.62 – $34.78 for Pennsylvania‑based applicants. Your position within the range will be based on competencies, education, qualifications, certifications, experience, geographic location, shift, and organizational needs. The successful candidate may be eligible for an annual performance bonus.
