TDI - Insurance Specialist I

Centralized Accounting and Payroll/Personnel System

Position Overview Insurance Specialist I (00058846) – Texas Department of Insurance. The role involves providing entry‑level insurance support, answering consumer inquiries, processing complaints, and assisting in consumer protection services. Benefits 96 hours of accrued vacation per year 96 hours of accrued sick leave per year 20+ holidays each year Free parking 401(k) and 457 programs State of Texas retirement plan with lifetime annuity through the Employee Retirement System of Texas Free comprehensive medical insurance for full‑time employees and 50% off premium costs for dependents Optional benefits: dental, vision, life insurance, and more Qualified employer for the Federal Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program Responsibilities Answer incoming calls on the Consumer Helpline Direct consumers to agency website for forms and provide information on how to submit forms to TDI Provide guidance and education regarding consumer protections and rights as defined by the Texas Insurance Code and Texas Administrative Code Coordinate with Complaint Resolution staff to help consumers with insurance complaints Provide cross‑training and backup support in expert knowledge areas, including observation and job shadowing for continuous staff development Perform other duties as assigned Qualifications 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university with major coursework in insurance or business administration, or equivalent technical experience; education and experience may be substituted on a year‑for‑year basis Regular work attendance required Bilingual English and Spanish preferred Demonstrated knowledge of state laws, rules, procedures, and regulations relevant to job requirements Knowledge of consumer protection laws, insurance policy requirements, prohibitions, underwriting principles, and licensing requirements Problem solving and critical thinking skills Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint) Ability to use personal computers to enter and extract data from systems such as Centralized Accounting Payroll and Personnel (CAPPS) and other required systems Effective communication and interpersonal skills with employees and the public Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information Ability to analyze and solve work‑related problems and work independently on a variety of administrative and technical assignments Ability to manage and coordinate multiple tasks and priorities to meet deadlines Ability to work both independently and as a team player Ability to comprehend and apply rules and statutes, including the Texas Insurance Code, Texas Administrative Code, and related laws Ability to draft clear and concise letters Ability to apply critical thinking to evaluate, analyze, and interpret information Ability to represent the agency to licensees, consumers, insurance representatives, legislators, and others professionally and courteously #J-18808-Ljbffr Centralized Accounting and Payroll/Personnel System
