Location: Wellesley-Framingham Metro area
Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Plant Manager to lead our small diameter tubing manufacturing facility. This operation encompasses multiple secondary process production lines, and the ideal candidate will bring a strong foundation of hands-on machine experience combined with a proven track record of transitioning into and excelling within leadership and management roles. Above all, this individual must believe that the development of people is the primary driver of sustainable operational success.
The Plant Manager will be responsible for all facets of plant operations including production, quality, safety, maintenance, and workforce development. This role requires a leader who can balance the tactical demands of a fast-paced manufacturing environment with the strategic vision needed to grow a high-performing team.
Core Responsibilities Operational Leadership:
- Direct and oversee all daily plant operations across multiple secondary process production lines, ensuring on-time delivery, quality standards, and cost targets are consistently met.
- Establish and maintain production schedules, capacity plans, and resource allocation strategies to optimize throughput while managing competing priorities.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives utilizing Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies to reduce waste, improve efficiency, and elevate overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, including ISO 9001 & 13485, and any applicable GMP standards relevant to medical device component manufacturing.
People Leadership and Development:
- Build, mentor, and develop a high-performing operations team by fostering a culture of accountability, trust, continuous learning, and mutual respect.
- Identify skill gaps within the workforce and implement targeted training and development programs that align individual growth with organizational objectives.
- Conduct regular performance reviews, provide constructive and timely feedback, and create individual development plans that promote career advancement.
- Champion succession planning to ensure leadership continuity and depth across all levels of the plant organization.
- Model the belief that investing in people is the foundation of sustained operational excellence, and embed this philosophy into the culture of the plant.
Technical and Process Expertise:
- Leverage hands-on experience with manufacturing equipment to provide credible technical guidance, troubleshoot production challenges, and support engineering and maintenance teams. Hands-on-machines leadership is expected when needed to support the team.
- Oversee mulitple secondary process operations (e.g., grinding, cutting, pointing, swaging, deburring, cleaning, or other value-added processes) with a practical understanding of machine setup, tooling, and process paramemeters.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, and R&D teams on new product introductions, process validations, and capital equipment projects.
Multitasking, Time Management, and Prioritization:
- Effectively manage competing demands across production, quality, maintenance, and personnel issues in a fast-paced, multi-line manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrate strong organizational skills by prioritizing tasks and initiatives based on business impact, urgency, and strategic alignment.
- Maintain composure and decision-making clarity under pressure, balancing short-term production needs with long-term operational goals.
- Proactively communicate priorities and expectations across all levels of the organization to ensure alignment and focus.
Safety and Quality:
- Foster a safety-First culture by enforcing all OSHA and company safety protocols, conducting regular audits, and leading corrective action efforts.
- Partner with the Quality team to maintain and enhance the facility's quality management system, ensuring product integrity and customer satisfaction.
- Lead root cause analysis and corrective/preventive action (CAPA) processes for production, quality, and safety events.
Financial and Strategic Management:
- Develop and manage the plant operating budget, including labor, materials, maintenance, and capital expenditures.
- Track and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) including output, yield, scrap, downtime, on-time delivery, and labor efficiency.
- Provide input into strategic planning and participate in cross-functional leadership discussions regarding capacity expansion, technology upgrades, and market growth.

- Hold a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations Management, or a related technical field-and have built on that foundation with 7-10 years of progressive manufacturing experience, including 3-5 years leading at the plant or operations management level.
- Started your career with your hands on the machines and earned your way into management-you know what it takes to set up, run, and troubleshoot equipment because you've done it yourself, and that experience shapes how you lead today.
- Thrive when juggling multiple priorities at once-you can manage competing demands across production lines, quality issues, maintenance needs, and people challenges without losing focus on what matters most.
- Have worked in a regulated manufacturing environment-ideally in medical devices, precision tubing, or a similarly demanding industry where quality and compliance aren't optional.
- Understand and have applied Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or similar continuous improvement methodologies-not just as a buzzwords, but as practical tools you've used to drive real results on the floor.
- Communicate with clarity and purpose-whether you're on the shop floor coaching an operator, resolving a conflict between shifts, or presenting to senior leadership, you know how to connect with your audience.
- Bring direct experience in hypodermic tubing or precision metal tubing manufacturing-if you know the nuances of this product, that's a significant advantage.
- Are familiar with, ISO 13485, and GMP requirements-you understand the weight of working in a space where the products you make end up in patient care.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
- Full-time, on-site position within a manufacturing facility.
- Regular presence on the production floor interacting with operators, supervisors, and equipment.
- Ability to stand, walk and move throughout the facility for extended periods.
- Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds may be required.
- Exposure to manufacturing environments including noise, temperature variations, and industrial materials.
Compensation and Benefits:
- $135-$160k base salary commensurate with experience
- 18 Paid days off plus 10 additional paid holidays (fixed holiday schedule)
- Year end bonus variable compensation, typically 5-15% of base dependent on individual and company performance
