Overview The paralegal independently researches law, investigates facts, and prepares documents such as briefs, pleadings, and appeals for attorney review, approval, and use. Work includes summarizing complex legal documents, organizing and indexing case files, determining and calendaring deadlines, and performing extensive legal research and data compilation with minimal supervision. The role involves filing pleadings with court clerks, drafting various legal documents, preparing reports, correspondence, declarations, complaints, and affidavits, and maintaining document files. Responsibilities extend to preparing for and assisting attorneys at mediations, trials, and in the preparation for depositions, as well as communicating with witnesses and experts and handling scheduling. The position requires timely entry of billing and expense data into the firm's system. Candidates must have paralegal certification or a degree from an accredited college or university. Required software proficiency includes Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), Lexis-Nexis, WestLaw, Live Note, Concordance, Case Map, Docketing, a Document Management System, and firm expense and billing systems.
