The Senior Calibration Engineer – XEV Powertrain & Vehicle Motion Controls leads the development, optimization, validation, and production release of vehicle level calibrations that define the driving experience, efficiency, performance, and safety of Oshkosh's Delivery Vehicles.
This role serves as the technical lead for coordinating vehicle-level calibration activities across propulsion, regenerative braking, torque management, and integrated vehicle motion control systems such as ESP and EPAS. Working closely with Systems Engineering, Software, Hardware, Functional Safety, Validation, and Supplier Engineering teams, the Senior Calibration Engineer provides technical leadership across calibration development, system integration, and production release to deliver robust, production-ready vehicle calibrations.
The position supports the complete product development lifecycle—from concept definition and requirements development through vehicle integration, launch, production support, and continuous product improvement—while helping drive Oshkosh's transition toward software-defined commercial vehicle platforms.
Your impact:
- Lead the development, integration, validation, and production release of propulsion, chassis controls, braking, steering, ADAS, and body system calibrations to achieve a cohesive vehicle motion control strategy.
- Develop and own the vehicle-level calibration strategy for: Vehicle Drivability, Torque arbitration and delivery, Drive mode optimization, AC and DC charging, Powertrain thermal management, Vehicle securing, Regenerative braking, One-Pedal Drive, Traction Control, Electronic Stability Control, Anti-Lock Brakes.
- Define calibration requirements, acceptance criteria, and performance metrics supporting vehicle attribute targets including drivability, efficiency, ride quality, handling, stability, braking performance, and the overall vehicle motion control customer experience.
- Lead vehicle attribute development including drivability, launch feel, acceleration, brake feel, energy efficiency, handling, ride quality, steering feel, and overall driver confidence.
- Lead vehicle calibration activities during prototype builds, proving ground events, chassis dynamometer testing, winter testing, hot weather validation, and production launch activities.
- Lead the vision and strategy for Oshkosh Delivery Vehicle development tuning, integration, validation, and launch of vehicle level calibrations.
- Cross-functional support for Systems Engineering, software development, vehicle system calibration, integration, validation and launch activities.
- Analyze large vehicle data sets to optimize: Torque response, Powertrain performance feel, Driveability, Accelerator pedal feel, Brake pedal feel, Regenerative braking transitions, Energy consumption, Motor efficiency, Vehicle stability, Ride and handling, Interface data between Powertrain, Chassis Controls, and ADAS systems.
- Lead cross-functional integration between Powertrain, Chassis Controls, ADAS, Body Controls, Systems Engineering, Software, and supplier engineering teams to deliver a cohesive vehicle motion control experience.
- Develop and maintain calibration documentation, release plans, and change management activities throughout the product lifecycle.
- Integrate supplier-developed software into vehicle platforms while ensuring compliance with program timing, quality objectives, and software release processes.
- Support development of control algorithms by providing calibration requirements, vehicle-level feedback, and production performance targets.
- Develop and maintain Model-Based Development workflows supporting MIL, SIL, HIL, and vehicle validation while enabling rapid calibration iteration.
- Lead vehicle-level troubleshooting using structured root cause analysis techniques to resolve performance, drivability, and system integration issues.
- Support continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) processes for calibration and software releases.
- Lead supplier technical reviews and coordinate calibration integration activities with powertrain, brake, steering, ADAS, and software suppliers.
- Drive the development of calibration processes and engineering standards.
- Analyze software defects, Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), and vehicle performance issues through root cause analysis and corrective action implementation.
- Support prototype vehicle builds, software flashing, calibration activities, and vehicle testing.
- Participate in software technical reviews, architecture reviews, design reviews, and release readiness assessments.
- Develop quality assurance processes utilizing Automotive SPICE, ISO 26262 Functional Safety, ISO/SAE 21434 Cybersecurity, and Oshkosh engineering processes.
- Opportunity to support ADAS and ICE Powertrain calibration activities.
- Travel up to 20% as required to support suppliers, prototype builds, proving grounds, manufacturing facilities, and customer evaluations.
Minimum qualifications:
- Accredited Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related engineering discipline.
- 5+ years of experience developing embedded automotive software and/or calibrations.
- Demonstrated experience calibrating production electric or hybrid powertrain systems.
- Strong understanding of: Electric propulsion systems, Vehicle dynamics, Brake systems, Vehicle Motion Controls, Torque management, Regenerative braking, Energy management.
- Experience using industry calibration tools including ETAS INCA, Vector CANape, CANalyzer, CANoe, or equivalent.
- Experience managing calibration data through peer reviews and tools including Vector vCDM or AVL Creta
- Experience collecting, analyzing, and interpreting large complex vehicle data sets.
- Experience with automotive communication protocols including CAN, CAN FD, Automotive Ethernet, and UDS diagnostics.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis skills.
- Excellent communication and cross-functional leadership skills.

- Accredited Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related engineering discipline.
- 10+ years of experience developing embedded automotive software and/or calibration.
- Experience leading calibration development for production BEV vehicle programs.
- Experience developing embedded controls algorithms.
- Experience defining calibration standards, engineering best practices, and development processes.
- Experience specifying vehicle ECUs, sensors, and actuators.
- Experience calibrating multiple propulsion systems.
- Ability to continuously improve vehicle engineering processes.
- Experience using cloud-based vehicle data analytics.
- Applied experience with: Brake blending, Regenerative braking optimization, Motor torque control, Traction management, Vehicle Stability Control, Torque Vectoring, One-Pedal Driving, Energy optimization, Thermal management calibration.
- Experience using: MATLAB/Simulink, ETAS INCA, ATI Vision, CANape, Vector CANoe/CANalyzer, dSPACE, Python, Jira.
- Experience with Model-Based Development including MIL, SIL, and HIL validation.
- Working knowledge of ISO 26262 Functional Safety.
- Familiarity with Automotive SPICE and ISO/SAE 21434 Cybersecurity.
- Experience with commercial vehicles, off-highway equipment, or heavy-duty electric vehicle platforms.
- Experience leading cross-functional technical teams and mentoring engineers.
