Work Schedule/Work Hours: Monday-Friday (8am-4:30pm)

JOB SUMMARY:

The Fleet Maintenance Technician is responsible for troubleshooting, inspecting, and repairing fleet vehicles while maintaining a strong commitment to safety, quality, and customer service. This role requires a positive attitude, adaptability, and the ability to work effectively in a variety of weather conditions and challenging situations. The technician will perform accurate vehicle diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs, ensuring all work meets Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) standards.

In this position, you will communicate technical findings and recommended repairs clearly and professionally to team members, supervisors, and customers. Success in this role requires a commitment to continuous learning and staying current with evolving automotive technologies, tools, and repair procedures. The technician must be able to work independently as well as collaboratively with the Lead Mechanic while maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work environment at all times.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Utilize technical expertise to inspect, diagnose, and repair fleet vehicles, ensuring safe and reliable operation.
• Continuously expand mechanical knowledge and skills through hands-on experience, training, and ongoing development.
• Perform preventive maintenance inspections and services to identify potential issues and reduce vehicle downtime.
• Collaborate closely with the Manager and Lead Mechanic to address vehicle concerns and communicate repair needs effectively.
• Work as part of the maintenance team to troubleshoot problems, meet deadlines, and deliver high-quality results.
• Perform all duties associated with entry-level maintenance and service functions, including:
  • Brake and hydraulic system repairs
  • Exhaust system maintenance and repairs
  • Basic electrical and lighting system diagnostics and repairs
  • Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) and cooling system services
  • Suspension, steering, chassis, wheel alignment, and tire maintenance
  • Routine preventive maintenance and scheduled service work
• Clearly explain vehicle conditions, technical findings, and recommended repairs to employees, supervisors, and customers who may not have a mechanical background.
• Support fellow technicians and mechanics with diagnostics, repairs, and other technical tasks as needed.
• Promptly report equipment malfunctions, safety concerns, or operational issues to management.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work area.
• Follow all company policies, procedures, safety standards, and environmental regulations to ensure a safe and compliant workplace.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

• A High School diploma or equivalent is preferred; a Trade school certificate is preferred.  
• ASE Certifications or a plan to excel in the automotive field.
• Section 609 Certification is not required but will need to be obtained within the first year for HVAC repairs.

Experience:

• Four (4) years in vehicle maintenance. Two (2) years’ experience trouble shooting electrical and mechanical problems.  
• Experience as an automotive technician/mechanic.

• Availability to work: days, on call (will need to be available for after hours on call for service requests in addition to regular scheduled hours), and some rare occasions on a weekend day.
• Must be computer literate and able to manage scheduling and fleet maintenance software.  
• Must be highly organized and able to multitask to include managing a tool crib, scheduling vehicle services and provide vehicle maintenance.  
• Must possess ability to communicate effectively with internal and external customers, staff, and peers. Provide excellent customer service.  
• Must have strong work ethic, be a self-starter, problem-solver, and team player.  
• Must be adaptable and dependable. 
• Must be an advocate for our mission and values.  
• Must have ability to understand and follow all Goodwill Safety standards and guidelines, and to read, comprehend, and follow Goodwill Employee Handbook, departmental manuals, and all numbered or supplemental memorandums.
• Must possess or have the ability to obtain a Class B Colorado Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and have a current medical examination card. Working knowledge of diesel and gasoline engine repair and of vehicle maintenance scheduling and record keeping.  
• The incumbent will be required and must have the ability to drive for company business*.

*Per auto vehicle insurance carrier requirements: For applicants/employees to qualify for inclusion on the Goodwill driver insurance schedule, for purpose of driving Goodwill fleet vehicles, or for purpose of receiving company mileage reimbursement they must be at least:

• 21 years of age (not engaged in passenger transportation),
• 25 – 70 years of age for all passenger transportation services,
• 25 years of age for CDL.

Applicants/employee will be required to undergo a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check and background check; applicants/employees must disclose all moving traffic violations or vehicle crashes (within the last five (5) years)(Note: not all violations are a disqualification for employment and each case will be reviewed by the insurance carrier); must have valid Colorado State driver license; must also be able to operate company vehicle, and adhere to all Federal, State, and local laws governing vehicle operation.
