Registered Nurse Category: Exempt Appalachian Mountain Health (AMH) is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FCHC) that provides comprehensive primary care to low-income, medically underserved and uninsured populations. AMH’s mission - to provide culturally competent, high quality healthcare to the medically vulnerable population in western North Carolina (NC) - is rooted in a primary care and preventive services medical home model with fees for services adjusted on the basis of a patient’s ability to pay. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Overseeing the daily clinical operations of practices and providing direct supervision to clinical support staff, including ensuring appropriate assessment and treatment of patients Conducting regular assessments of clinical processes and outcomes to identify opportunities for rapid cycle quality improvement Ensuring compliance with established regulations and clinical standards, including those put forth by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and 19 Program Requirements of the Health Center Program Collaborating with the Clinical Director on development and implementation of policies and procedures and quality improvement and assurance plans Compiling and analyzing data on patient outcomes, quality improvement initiatives, provider performance and productivity and preparing reports for administration Analyzing staffing patterns in collaboration with Human Resources and assisting with recruitment, selection, orientation, training and evaluation of clinical staff Benefits 403(b) Retirement plan 403(b) matching Dental insurance Employee assistance program Flexible spending account Health insurance Life insurance Paid time off 11 Paid Holidays Employee Celebration Vision insurance Requirements Knowledge & Skills Knowledge of nursing principles and techniques, occupational health and safety standards and health care regulations Knowledge of budgetary, supervisory and quality improvement principles and techniques Knowledge of best clinical practices and trends in health care Knowledge of employee development techniques to ensure appropriate training and mentoring of staff Ability to apply and modify, as appropriate, the principles, methods and techniques of nursing Ability to identify problems, research and recommend solutions Exercises a high degree of initiative, judgment, discretion and decision‑making Ability to build consensus among staff Ability to work effectively with a diverse staff and demonstrate equity in working with clinicians, clinical support and administrative support staff Excellent interpersonal skills in group and community settings Effective management of multiple duties and responsibilities in a clinical setting Demonstrates respect, dignity and empathy with patients Flexibility in a rapidly growing and changing work environment Required Qualifications Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Experience working with racially and ethnically diverse populations, low‑income populations and people experiencing homelessness Active Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in NC Preferred Qualifications Experience working in a Community Health Center Fluency in Spanish Physical Demands and Working Conditions Full range of motion, including manual and finger dexterity and eye–hand coordination Standing and walking frequently and occasionally lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50 pounds Consistently sitting and working at a computer Ability to operate standard nursing equipment Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, biohazards, toxic substances, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinical setting Some travel within western North Carolina Compensation will be commensurate with experience and education. The position is full‑time (40 hours per week), salaried and exempt from some provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). The position will be eligible for benefits (e.g. medical, dental, life, short‑ and long‑term disability, retirement) and report to the Clinical Director.
