Registered Nurse (RN) Surgery

Position Overview Starr Regional Medical Center is hiring a full‑time Registered Nurse (RN) for the Surgery department. The role includes an initial and ongoing assessment of patients' condition and the provision of direct care, staff supervision, and planning and coordinating care. Responsibilities Perform initial and ongoing assessments of patient’s condition. Establish a plan of care appropriate to identified problems, involving the patient according to capabilities and desires. Supervise and mentor nursing and support staff during assigned shifts. Assist in determining staffing levels and assignments based on staff availability, staff abilities, census, patient acuity and work/patient flow. Provide direct patient care as needed. Float between staff to assist with problem‑solving. Takes patient assignments to meet staffing needs. Evaluate the effectiveness of patient care and identify any issues that affect desired patient outcomes. Respond to complaints about patient care and related services and manage through established channels. Perform role‑specific duties such as entering orders, admissions or discharges, and coordinating transfers. Ensure staff has necessary equipment and supplies to provide safe, quality patient care. Qualifications Minimum of one year of recent, directly related Surgery nursing experience. Associate’s degree required; BSN preferred. Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, ability to work with minimal supervision and in a stressful environment. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required at hire; Pediatric Advanced Life Support required within 6 months or upon department transfer. Licensed Registered Nurse in the State of Tennessee or from a Compact state with proper Tennessee paperwork filed within 30 days of hire.
