VP Finance

Our client, a timberland investment management company, is seeking a VP, Finance - Portfolio FP&A. This is a senior finance leader position responsible for enterprise planning, portfolio analytics, capital allocation, fund performance analysis, and strategic decision support across a timberland investment platform. This role provides financial insight needed to guide capital allocation across timberland acquisitions/dispositions, silviculture investment, and emerging natural climate solutions revenue streams. The role sits at the intersection of corporate finance, timberland asset management, and strategic planning, translating segment- and asset-level performance into enterprise-level financial strategy.

• Own the enterprise long-range planning and rolling forecast processes across all Private Funds, Investment Advisory relationships and product areas
• Lead consolidated and Fund-level forecasting, liquidity planning, distribution modeling, and performance analytics across all managed funds.
• Monitor and forecast Fund-level cash flows, capital calls, distributions, fee revenues, and operating liquidity.
• Deliver monthly and quarterly variance analysis, KPI dashboards, and management reporting to the COO, executive leadership, and Board of Directors
• Build and refine multi-year scenario and sensitivity models (log/stumpage pricing, interest rates, carbon pricing, land values) to stress-test portfolio returns

• Evaluate risk-adjusted returns (IRR, NPV, cash yield) across Private Funds, portfolio holdings, regions, age classes, and species mix, informing buy/hold/sell decisions
• Develop and maintain the analytical framework for evaluating timberland acquisitions, dispositions, HBU/real estate sales, and non-timber income opportunities (carbon, mitigation banking, solar/wind leasing)
• Support capital markets activity, including debt financing, distribution planning
• Provide financial due diligence leadership on portfolio acquisition's and large land transactions

• Serve as senior finance business partner aligning operational plans with financial targets
• Translate field-level forestry and operational data into investor-ready financial narratives and disclosures
• Partner with Investor Relations on earnings materials, guidance setting, and analyst/investor inquiries related to portfolio performance
• Collaborate on Tax, Legal, compliance, structuring, and capital deployment matters

• Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing FP&A and portfolio analytics team
• Drive continuous improvement in planning tools, financial systems, and data infrastructure (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, Data Warehouse) to improve forecasting accuracy and reporting efficiency
• Establish governance and controls around forecasting assumptions, model integrity, and reporting standards
• Champion cross-functional integration between finance, GIS/inventory, and operations data sources

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field; MBA or advanced degree strongly preferred
• 12-15+ years of progressive finance experience, including significant FP&A, corporate finance, or investment/portfolio analysis leadership
• Experience in timberland, REIT, natural resources, real estate, or capital-intensive asset-heavy industries strongly preferred
• Demonstrated experience building and presenting financial models and strategic recommendations to C-suite and Board-level audiences
• Strong command of capital allocation frameworks, NPV/IRR/DCF analysis, and portfolio return benchmarking
• Proven people-leadership experience managing and developing finance teams

• CFA, CPA, or MBA credential
• Experience with private fund financial structures, timberland valuation methodologies, and natural climate solutions/carbon markets
• Experience supporting investment committees, institutional investors, boards, or private equity style asset-management organizations
• Advanced Excel modeling skills and experience with business intelligence, data visualization, and financial reporting systems.
• Experience with enterprise planning platforms and BI/visualization tools

• Executive presence with the ability to distill complex financial/portfolio data into clear strategic recommendations
• Strong analytical rigor paired with commercial and strategic judgment
• Track record of cross-functional influence without direct authority
• High integrity and sound judgment in handling material, market-sensitive financial information
• Ability to operate effectively in a dynamic, matrixed organization spanning field operations and corporate finance
