Grade Level Supported: 9th Grade Student
Position Type: 1:1 School Nursing Support

Overview

We are seeking a skilled, compassionate Registered Nurse (RN) to provide dedicated 1:1 support for a 9th-grade student with complex medical needs. The ideal candidate will ensure the student's health, safety, and ability to fully participate in the school day. This role requires clinical expertise, strong judgment, and the ability to respond calmly and effectively in high-stress situations.

Key Responsibilities

1. Seizure Management

Provide ongoing monitoring and care for a student who experiences frequent seizures .
Execute the student's Seizure Action Plan precisely, including appropriate response protocols for both focal motor and tonic-clonic seizures.
Administer emergency medications if prescribed.
Determine when additional emergency support (e.g., EMS) is required.

2. Differentiation of Seizure Types

Recognize and differentiate between epileptic seizures and Psychogenic Non-Epileptic Seizures (PNES) .
Respond according to the detailed medical plan and the distinct care requirements for each event type.

3. Awareness of Neurological Condition

Understand the impact of the student's Dandy-Walker Cyst , including its potential relationship to seizures and other neurological symptoms.
Monitor for symptom changes and report concerns promptly.

4. Mobility & Physical Support

Assist with wheelchair mobility, including safe transfers and movement throughout the school setting.
Ensure the student's comfort, positioning, and safety at all times.

5. Daily Health Monitoring

Track vital signs, hydration, and overall well-being-particularly after a seizure event.
Document health observations and interventions consistently and accurately.

6. Collaboration & Communication

Work closely with the student's family, teachers, school staff, and healthcare providers.
Ensure all parties understand the student's needs, care protocols, and any updates to their health plan.

Qualifications

Licensure

Registered Nurse (RN) with an active license in the state.

Experience

Experience working with children or adolescents with complex medical needs preferred.
Strong background in seizure management required.

Skills & Attributes

Excellent observational and assessment skills.
Ability to stay calm, focused, and decisive during emergencies.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Compassionate, supportive, and patient-centered approach.
