Conducts assessments of nutritional status and implements principles of medical nutrition therapy for intervention.

Principal Duties And Responsibilities

• Utilizes validated tools for assessment of nutritional status to determine need for nutritional intervention.

• Analyzes anthropometrics, biochemical data and pertinent findings on physical exam to devise appropriate interventions.

• Maintains communication between patients, families and the medical team with regards to assessment findings and desired interventions. Implements interventions in cooperation with the patient, family and medical team.

• Documents and reports pertinent patient information in an accurate and timely manner.

• Maintains expected productivity standards.

• Provides continuity of coverage in emergency situations. Covers other service areas as directed by supervisor

• Provides clinical supervision to dietetic interns, students, and other staff members as requested by the supervisor or director. Acts as a resource in area of expertise.

• Demonstrates proficiency in medical nutrition therapy for all age groups between 0 and 21 years.

• Successfully completes Hospital and department specific orientation and ongoing mandatory education requirements.

• Other essential duties may be assigned as necessary to the operations of the department.

• Appropriately implements validated assessment techniques that are appropriate to the patient's age, nutrition status and medical condition.

• Maintains competency in nutrition support principles.

• Maintains competency in current formula availability and implications for practice.

• Correctly interprets biochemical data and comprehends nutrition related implications.

• Recognizes pertinent physical findings that impact nutritional evaluation and intervention.

• Demonstrates the ability to organize a caseload and prioritize care based on nutritional acuity.

• Maintains confidentiality of patient and caregiver information.

• Engages in ethical treatment as delineated by CDR.

• Demonstrates professional and courteous behavior.

• Provides compassionate care to patients and families.

• Communicates effectively with other team members.

• Participates in department quality assurance activities.

• Maintains a safe and orderly work environment.

• Accepts specific non-patient care related duties within the department.

• Attends and participates in hospital in-services, workshops and professional conferences in order to maintain current knowledge in the field.

• Attends and participates in staff meetings.
