Type of appointment: Full Time, Probationary Job classification: Network & Communications Analyst II Salary range: $6,492 – $6,622 per month Work schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm The Department The mission of the Information Technology Division is to provide stewardship, leadership, and service in support of the teaching and learning mission of the university. IT provides learning technologies, strategies, leadership and support, all of which enhance teaching, learning, the quality of the student experience, personal productivity, and administrative effectiveness. IT Converged Network Services is responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of various (data, voice, video, etc.) campus telecommunications networks and associated infrastructure. Duties and Responsibilities Perform inside wiring installations between wiring closets, offices, and classrooms, adhering to Systimax standards. Perform outside wiring installations between buildings and/or from a building to an outside location, using existing conduit paths or by installing new conduit paths. Troubleshoot and repair blocks, protectors, terminations, etc. Diagnose and repair problems with phones, wiring, fiber optics, and wireless. Splice fiber optic cables. Assist network analysts with patching and equipment installation. Perform LAN maintenance as required, including VLAN changes and participation in large rollouts. Provide telecommunications and structured cabling systems coordination for campus infrastructure projects and support other projects. Work with campus clients to identify scope of work and resources required for a specific telecommunications project. Verify the integrity of work performed by vendors and contracted personnel. Provide construction coordination for campus infrastructure projects. Coordinate installation of security cameras, wireless access points, digital signage, and card access low‑voltage equipment across the campus, including design of structured cabling for these systems. Update documentation: diagrams, floor plans, and other drawings used in coordination, project reviews, and department status meetings. Qualifications Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in a related field and two years of relevant experience; additional experience may substitute education on a year‑for‑year basis. An advanced degree may substitute for required experience on a year‑for‑year basis. Valid driver’s license in state. Strong working knowledge of network architecture, configuration, protocols, interconnectivity requirements, communication transmission technologies and related concepts. Strong analytical skills to evaluate network and communications problems using appropriate test structures and diagnostics, and to analyze network and communications efficiency. Strong organizational skills to plan, organize, and manage multiple time‑sensitive assignments and projects. Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to present information to technically diverse audiences in a clear, concise manner. Skill in leading the work of others. Proficiency with applicable network and communications equipment, security and system technologies, and software applications. Knowledge of network architecture, configuration, protocols, and related concepts. Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle sensitive data and information. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, building relationships with diverse stakeholders. Analytical skills to think critically, diagnose problems, and recommend solutions. Preferred Qualifications Understanding of network infrastructure standards and industry best practices. Understanding of underground cabling vaults and cabling plants. Systimax or BICSI certification. Experience with AutoCAD. Experience in a university setting on a large campus. Experience with VoIP in a professional capacity. Familiarity with IP networking concepts, including addressing and subnetting. Comprehensive knowledge of voice systems design, telecommunications protocols, maintenance, and management of telephone systems. Extensive knowledge of voice and data networking protocols and methods of linking devices to the voice network. Knowledge of copper, coaxial, and fiber cable distribution systems. Ability to read and interpret reference manuals, diagrams, and schematics. Proficiency with tools such as punch down, butt set, continuity tester, etc. Ability to respond to service disruptions and emergency situations outside core working hours. Ability to pull and terminate voice and data wiring according to Systimax standards and cross‑connect endpoint connections for the PBX.
