Family Worker (Taylor Center for New Experiences)

Job Details This Family Worker position is responsible for Family Engagement within Head Start Program Performance Standards at the school level, including parent partnerships, community partnerships, and the creation and follow‑up of family goals. The role coordinates family engagement meetings and training, works closely with the staff of the Family Hub to bring parents and guardians into schools, and increases their involvement. The Family Worker also meets the needs of all diverse learners by handling paperwork, monitoring IEPs and IFSPs, performing data entry, scheduling and facilitating family review meetings. Direct and indirect supportive services are provided in medical health, dental health, and social services. The position assists the ERSEA Manager with student recruitment and is responsible for enrolling eligible children. The employee must be available to work some evenings and weekends. This position supports both the Nia Family Center and the Taylor Center for New Experiences. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Bachelor's degree in social services or related field (Master's preferred). Hold a Gateways Family Specialist Credential Level 5. Bilingual in Spanish preferred. Must have excellent communication and customer service skills. Must be able to work with a diverse clientele. Must maintain confidentiality. Must display strong leadership skills. Must share ideas and information effectively. Must work under stress in a fast‑paced environment. Must be a flexible team player who adapts to any situation. Must advocate for children and families. Ability to read, write and speak in English. Spanish communication is a plus. Ability to use word processing software. Availability to work evenings and weekends. Desired Outcomes Meet full enrollment requirements set by program funders, including recruitment efforts. Increase family engagement participants to meet individual needs. Maintain record‑keeping as required by program funders. Essential Job Requirements & Duties Contribute to the agency’s child development philosophy and goals. Establish relationships and trust with all families. Work with families on “Family Assessments” and realistic goal setting, monitoring these goals on an ongoing basis through personal contact (no less than three times per year). Maintain compliance with family goals, partnership agreements, diverse learners, and parent engagement activities. Recruit children and families, including 10% of children identified as diverse learners. Complete intake and registration of new students. Enter all case notes into the computer database weekly. Participate in home visits and parent/teacher conferences. Be responsible for Diverse Learner Tracking and oversee services for families of children considered diverse learners, including referrals, observations, required documentation, and interdisciplinary team meetings. Participate in and track all student transitions. Assist in planning, participation, assessment, and documentation of all Family Engagement Activities and Family Hub activities. Develop and maintain annual partnerships with community organizations to provide resources and referrals to families. Attend community events to recruit families and develop community partnerships. Assist with maintaining the Community Resource Directory. Meet regularly with Center Directors to collaborate on center needs and family worker resources, including coverage and school events. Contribute to teams, including Center Leadership Teams, Family Worker Teams, and larger teams across Chicago Commons. Follow up with Program Information Report (PIR) monitoring as needed. Other duties as assigned. Physical Requirements The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform this job. The employee is required to speak and read English proficiently, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl regularly, and occasionally lift or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision requirements include the ability to see at close range.
