This role involves performing a wide range of civil and utility construction tasks, including digging, trenching, and installing schedule 40 PVC and conduit on large, complex projects. You will support site work operations by moving materials, assisting with shoring and trench boxes, and using hand and power tools to complete heavy civil construction activities safely and efficiently.

Responsibilities

• Dig and trench for civil and utility construction projects, ensuring proper depth, alignment, and slope for pipes and conduit.
• Install schedule 40 PVC and other conduit, including laying thousands of yards of pipe and ensuring accurate placement and secure connections.
• Set up, drop in, and remove trench boxes and shoring systems to maintain safe excavation conditions.
• Move and stage materials, including pipe, trench boxes, and construction equipment, to support ongoing site work.
• Connect rigging and straps to machinery and loads for safe lifting, loading, and unloading operations.
• Operate and use hand and power tools such as jumping jacks, plate compactors, grade machines, and shovels to perform compaction, grading, and excavation tasks.
• Perform general labor duties on heavy civil and utility construction sites, including site cleanup, demolition support, and assisting other trades as needed.
• Support concrete work activities, including preparing trenches and sites for concrete pours.
• Follow all safety procedures and participate actively in the site’s safety culture, including proper use of PPE and adherence to trenching and excavation safety practices.
• Work collaboratively with the site crew and supervisors to complete projects on time and to quality standards.

• 2–5 years of experience as a construction laborer, heavy civil laborer, or utility laborer.
• Proven experience with digging, trenching, and trench box operations on civil or utility construction projects.
• Ability to install and lay large quantities of schedule 40 PVC and conduit accurately and efficiently.
• Hands-on experience with shoring and trench safety practices.
• Ability to use hand and power tools, including jumping jacks, plate compactors, grade machines, and shovels.
• Experience with rigging, including connecting straps and rigging to machinery and loads for lifting and moving materials.
• Background in site work, demolition support, and general construction labor tasks.
• Understanding of concrete work, including preparation for concrete pours.
• Strong commitment to working safely in heavy civil and utility construction environments.
• OSHA 10 certification strongly preferred.

• Experience in heavy civil construction, site work, and utility installation.
• Familiarity with power tools and equipment used in trenching, shoring, and concrete work.
• Ability to work effectively outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat.
• Strong teamwork, communication, and reliability in a field construction setting.
• Willingness to take direction and support multiple tasks across the job site.
• Interest in long-term employment with opportunities to convert from temporary to permanent.

Work Environment

This position follows a typical schedule of 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and is based outdoors on active construction sites in hot conditions. You will work primarily in field environments that involve trenching, site work, and heavy civil construction activities. Personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn at all times, and there is a strong, well-established safety culture with a particular emphasis on trenching and excavation safety. The work involves regular use of hand and power tools, earthmoving and compaction equipment, and other construction machinery in a physically demanding, fast-paced setting.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Brownsville, TX.

The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $25.00/hr.

This is a fully onsite position in Brownsville,TX.
