Bus Attendant (Part-Time)
Reports To: Transportation Supervisor
Salary Range: $16.00 per hour
Schedule: MondayFriday (No Holidays), approximately 2025 hours per week
Shift: Split Shift: 6:30 a.m. 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. 3:30 p.m.

As a Bus Attendant, you'll play an important role in supporting individuals with disabilities by providing safe, respectful, and compassionate assistance during transportation. Your work helps ensure passengers travel with dignity while promoting their independence and well-being.
About the Role
The Bus Attendant provides direct assistance and supervision to individuals with disabilities while they are being transported. This position works closely with bus operators to ensure passengers are safely secured, comfortable throughout their trip, and receive appropriate assistance during boarding, transportation, and exiting the vehicle.
What You'll Do
- Provide continuous supervision and support to individuals with disabilities during transportation.
- Assist passengers with safely boarding and exiting the vehicle.
- Properly secure wheelchairs, seat belts, and other passenger restraints.
- Monitor passengers for medical, behavioral, or safety concerns and report issues to appropriate personnel.
- Administer First Aid or CPR when trained and necessary.
- Follow established emergency procedures during accidents or incidents.
- Communicate effectively with passengers while responding to their needs respectfully and professionally.
- Collaborate with bus operators and other staff to ensure safe and coordinated passenger transportation.
- Participate in required training related to disability support, transportation safety, emergency response, and passenger care.
- Follow all OPWDD policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
- Maintain a professional, courteous, and cooperative attitude while ensuring the safe transport of passengers.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities.
- Previous experience in transportation, healthcare, education, human services, or customer service.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
The physical demands described are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Reasonable accommodations may be made for qualified individuals with disabilities.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds when assisting passengers.
- Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, and reaching while assisting passengers and securing mobility devices.
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, and climb stairs throughout the workday.
- Manual dexterity to operate wheelchair lifts, securement systems, and related equipment.
- Adequate vision and hearing to monitor passenger safety and respond to emergencies.
- Ability to work outdoors and in varying weather conditions for short periods.
Additional Information
All required training is provided by Regional Transit Service (RTS).
Prior to working independently, employees must successfully complete:
- CPR and First Aid certification training and maintain certification throughout employment.
- Three hours of pre-service instruction covering bus safety practices, child management techniques, and special needs transportation, including proper assistance techniques for passengers with disabilities.
- Annual two-hour refresher training in required transportation safety practices.
