Facilities Coordinator ASUC Student Union

Position Summary In this role, you will oversee building‑related services and ensure the safety and security of occupants, visitors, and event venues within the UC Berkeley Student Union. You will manage safety protocols, coordinate maintenance, supervise staff, and address operational issues while providing expert guidance on safety and security and delivering outstanding customer service to stakeholders. Responsibilities Support Student Union building operations; may act as Building Coordinator for emergency/disaster preparedness, incident response, and de‑escalation. Assist oversight of Student Union operations, including information desk operations, handling escalated customer service complaints, and supporting other functional areas involving the campus community and the general public. Supervise Student Union staff: direct daily student work, assign duties, and provide escalated issue support. Provide excellent customer service to event clients and building occupants, ensuring smooth‑running events and proper use of building amenities. Coordinate, monitor, and track all maintenance, custodial, and service requests for assigned facilities and event spaces. Conduct regular rounds to inspect areas for security, fire, and accident hazards, report infractions, and take appropriate action. Review and execute floor plans for Student Union community spaces and event venues in collaboration with Facilities and Event Services teams. Represent the department on special projects, safety committee, building emergency committee, and ergonomic program; ensure compliance with OSHA/EH&S regulations and implement safety policies, maintaining first aid supplies and fire extinguishers. Required Qualifications Working knowledge of facility maintenance practices and procedures. Written communication skills for preparing correspondence, reports, policies, procedures, and training documents. Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines in a stressful environment. Active listening, interpersonal communication, and problem‑solving skills to resolve concerns and maintain productive relationships. Independent and team‑oriented work style. Organizational skills to handle multiple projects with competing deadlines, establish priorities, and meet budget and time constraints. Knowledge of safety and emergency preparedness practices. Ability to oversee part‑time student employees, train them, and provide corrective instruction. Bachelor’s degree in a related area or equivalent experience/training. Salary & Benefits Salary range: $36.91 (Step 4) – $39.17 (Step 7) per hour, paid bi‑weekly. Non‑exempt, bi‑weekly paid position.
