Departmental Overview For over 100 years, UHS has been providing health care and integrative services for a wide range of physical and mental health care needs to the Berkeley campus community. And we've spent a quarter-century of that time at the Tang Center, a fully accredited health care facility, UHS employs over 300 people, including primary and urgent care physicians, psychiatrists, consulting medical specialists, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, pharmacists, health educators, social workers, and other health administrative professionals. All our clinicians, counselors, and nurses are state-licensed and/or certified in their respective fields. In addition to our staff, Berkeley students participate in UHS peer, intern, and volunteer programs. Together, we provide services on a continuum from prevention through treatment. Position Summary Under the direction of the Manager of Behavioral Health, the incumbent will provide direct supervision and clinical oversight of Ally Care Team (ACT) operations, performing a wide range of complex tasks with a high level of autonomy. Supervises licensed clinicians and training staff including crisis responses and mental health services throughout the UC Berkeley Campus. Supervises and evaluates the work of clinical and non-clinical team members, including staff student workers. Responsible for evaluating and ensuring the quality of services. Involves psychological evaluation, diagnosis, counseling, psychotherapy, and crisis intervention with individuals and groups across a broad spectrum of developmental and psychological concerns that interfere with effective academic and personal functioning. Develops psycho-educational programs. Also performs one or more of the following functions: Uses and interprets educational, vocational, and psychological tests; provides clinical supervision of professional graduate-level trainees. Must be licensed as a Psychologist, Social Worker, or Licensed Marriage and Family Counselor in California. Ensures provider adherence to professional standards, internal policies, and external regulations. Provides high-level consultation to staff, often regarding complex,high-risk issues. Participates in the development and maintenance of crisis services delivery policies and procedures, and offers relevant training for staff. Assists the Manager of Behavioral Health in the evaluation and improvement of clinical processes to ensure the quality of mobile crisis services delivery. Application Review Date The First Review Date for this job is: 5/14/2026. This job will remain open until filled. Responsibilities Daily Operations & Program Management:
- Develops, implements, and manages a mobile mental health program serving all individuals in and around campus experiencing a mental health crisis;
- Collaborates and accepts referrals from campus and community partners, law enforcement, and external stakeholders;
- Offers crisis triage and management, risk assessment, in-person mental health and sexual violence and sexual harassment (SVSH) intervention, and case management;
- Commits to actively being part of and supporting a diverse and inclusive workplace, demonstrates inclusive behavior, and maintains a safe and professional working environment;
- Coordinates the day-to-day operations of program services and oversees a team of crisis response clinicians who respond to calls, providing services directly to individuals of all ages and demographics who are in and around campus;
- Manages the development, implementation, and ongoing functioning and effectiveness of the mobile crisis team; establishes and recommends changes to policies to improve operational processes and patient services;
- Supports the Behavioral Health manager in developing, tracking, and monitoring operational and budget processes, staffing FTE, human resources, communications, and space planning;
Supervision and Clinical Oversight:
- Acts as primary supervisor of record for subordinates; Trains, manages, evaluates, and retains program staff and clinical team to ensure high quality patient care and culturally competent service delivery in accordance with campus policies and procedures;
- Coordinates scheduling and work assignments to assure optimal services;
- Promotes the safety of staff and students through continuous monitoring for compliance with other health & safety policies, programs, and procedures;
- Provide backup on-call or crisis mental health and SVSH support as needed across University Health Services and function as the liaison between team and community partners to support collaboration of services for the UC Berkeley community with an emphasis on integrating principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion into all patient care, training, and outreach services and initiatives;
- Assist with the orientation of new personnel, monitor skills, guide, and observe staff who may need assistance with procedures;
- Provide administrative and clinical supervision to licensed clinicians and training staff in order to deliver effective, high-quality crisis counseling services to students;
- Guide clinicians in addressing complex mental health issues and provide consultation regarding high-risk cases, challenging client interactions/issues, and treatment strategies;
- Ensure direct reports accurately document all client-related activities within the established timeframe; implement performance improvement plans as needed;
- Monitor and support staff in meeting clinical productivity goals and execute steps to address low productivity.
- In collaboration with the manager of data and quality assurance and the Clinical Director, ensure provider adherence to other standards, internal policies, and external regulations;
- Assess competency, conduct proctoring, and complete performance reviews for direct reports;
- Address personnel issues directly, including grievances and complaints;
Communications & Outreach
- Provides support, when needed, to the Student Mental Health outreach team and in peer programming. Supports collaboration with campus partners to ensure effective marketing, public awareness, and community engagement in the UHS Ally Care Team's (ACT) effectiveness. Collaborates with dispatch services to ensure seamless care response.

Required Qualifications
Education- Master's in clinical social work, marriage and family therapy, or counseling OR Doctorate in clinical psychology or counseling, post-doctoral work required.
Licenses/Certification
- Valid CA Driver's License
- Doctorate in clinical psychology or counseling, post-doctoral work required.
Current, valid license in California as a psychologist
Must be licensed by start date.
OR
- Masters in clinical social work, marriage and family therapy, or counseling.
Current, valid CA state license as a LCSW, MFT, or LPCC.
Must be licensed by start date.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Advanced demonstrated knowledge of behavioral health counseling methods and techniques, assessment, crisis intervention, treatment planning and case management.
- Strong knowledge of applicable federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with sexual assault and domestic violence survivors
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with a diverse student population.
- Advanced knowledge of multicultural counseling and issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Demonstrated supervisory skills to guide Doctoral and Masters level behavioral health providers in utilizing complex treatment methods.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate.
- Ability to organize operations in an efficient and effective manner.
- Working knowledge of human resources management practices and policies.
- Strong working knowledge of business software, specialized applications, and EHR systems used in behavioral health centers/clinics.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize and meet deadlines in a complex, challenging, fast-paced environment.
- Ability to organize and monitor operations in an efficient and effective manner.\
- Program coordination, development, and implementation skills and experience.
- Ability to work in a highly collaborative manner with a diverse and multidisciplinary staff.
- Ability to conduct the most complex clinical analysis, develop and present recommendations, findings, and determine appropriate course of treatment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a union environment
- Experience providing clinical and administrative supervision to licensed clinicians
- Knowledge of One-at-a-Time clinical services delivery model.
Salary & Benefits
- The budgeted salary range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $112,400- $145,000.
- This is a 100%, full-time (40 hours per week), career position that is eligible for full UC benefits.
- This position is exempt and paid monthly.
