Resistered Respiratory Therapist II -NICU

Job Summary The Respiratory Therapist II is responsible for medication administration and implementing respiratory care based on expanded knowledge, experience, and the evaluate‑and‑treat process. The RT II delivers patient care in complex, multi‑problem situations, primarily in critical care areas with protocol ventilator management, independent decision‑making, and self‑direction. In addition to patient care delivery, the RT II provides patient and family education, coordinates activities, develops staff, and engages in professional and self‑developmental activities. The RT II also participates in the education of new employees and others. Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions Provides Customer Service Completion of patient care, documentation and education. Team approach to service and promotes a positive work environment. Provides a supportive environment for students and staff. Administers Quality Patient Care Performs patient assessment and therapy assessment. Collaborates with the health‑care team in planning patient care. Verifies orders and administers aerosolized medication, bronchial hygiene, volume expansion, oxygen and medical gas therapy. Performs ventilator management, weaning, waveform graphic interpretation; airway management including intubation, extubation, tracheostomy tube change and care. Performs arterial blood gas sampling and analysis. Educates patients and mentors/precepts new employees, students and peers. Assists with invasive and non‑invasive procedures, cardiac service procedures, and pulmonary diagnostic testing. Provides a Safe & Quality Environment Promotes current and accurate electronic orders, charting and charging. Promotes high level of patient safety (Medication Safety, NPSG, etc.). Promotes performance improvement initiatives and evidence‑based practice. Reviews revised and new DPPs. Performs other duties as assigned. Complies with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct. Required Minimum Education and Certifications Bachelor’s degree in Respiratory Therapy or Associate’s degree in Respiratory Therapy (preferred). Required qualifications: BSL – Basic Life Support (American Red Cross or equivalent), ACLS – Advanced Cardiac Life Support, PALS – Pediatric Advanced Life Support, NRP – Neonatal Resuscitation Program. Additional education for advanced RT roles may include RRT, RCP, or additional credentials as specified. Required Minimum Experience 0–2 years of clinical experience with at least 6 months in critical care. Required Minimum Skills Excellent communication and critical‑thinking skills. Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with physicians and other health‑care professionals. Computer skills including familiarity with databases.
