POSITION: Cellular Biologist II, Global Stem Cell Array
DUTIES: The Cellular Biologist II, Global Stem Cell Array, performs project planning, experimental design, method development, execution of laboratory procedures, adaptation of protocols, data collection and analysis, documentation, and contribution to reports and other written materials for human/mammalian cell culture. Primary responsibilities include implementing and performing cell biology related tasks and procedures; planning and monitoring resources needed to conduct tasks such as the cell culture (manual or automated), spatial transcriptomics, and hyperplexed imaging technologies of the laboratory; maintaining inventory control; coordinating space, field, equipment, and/or facilities; may monitor expenditures; documentation of results; implementing protocols from the literature; identifying problems, troubleshooting, and analyzing variations observed and reported in regular testing protocols; modifying, refining, or adapting techniques and procedures; modifying and/or adjusting quality control measures; leading exchange of research information through demonstration and instruction; performing and independently monitoring automated and manual cell culture and related activities; adapting protocols and developing new workflows with periodic support as required; working collaboratively to perform all necessary protocols for workflows that include, but are not limited to, fibroblast expansion, reprogramming, iPSC expansion on the robotic platform(s), or manually as required; storing and withdrawal of specimens from liquid nitrogen and freezers and prepare media and reagents required for daily work; working closely with the laboratory operations team to ensure reagent/consumable inventory is accurately and efficiently stocked; planning and monitoring resources needed to operate the Global Stem Cell Array; maintaining inventory control; coordinating space and field questions; may be required to participate in the monitoring and tracking of resources/expenditures across projects; working closely with departmental leadership and a multidisciplinary team of scientists and technical specialists; and providing documentation and feedback including the creation and modification of SOPs, filing of file tickets to software and automation teams, and providing feedback at inter- and intra-team meetings. The role will be in regular collaboration with cross functional partners such as project managers, engineering teams, and software or technical support personnel to ensure smooth day-to-day laboratory operations in a production focused environment and will collaborate with engineers and other staff when resolving more complex issues.
RATE OF PAY: Between $73,382 and $82,311 per year.
REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in a directly related specialty of biology, such as biotechnology, forensic science, or biology, and two years of experience in a professional laboratory scientific role performing both automated and manual cell culture operations for induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) lines in compliance with Laboratory Information Management Systems. Additionally all qualified applicants must have experience with the following proficiencies/ skills over a period of 24 months: (1) Automated iPSC Derivation and Cell Culture Operations including production and handling of biological materials to support automated induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) reprogramming, expansion, maintenance and assay execution, including robotic media exchange, passaging, thawing, and cryopreservation; (2) Processing whole blood, skin, saliva, and fibroblast samples; isolation of PBMCs using manual and automated array systems; preparation of biological inputs for downstream reprogramming and discovery workflows within Laboratory Information Management Systems platforms; (3) Executing fibroblast reprogramming protocols, initiation of stem cell discovery pipelines, and transition of primary cell types into pluripotent states under controlled manual and automated conditions; (4) Implementation, development, and continuous improvement of novel automated assays and workflows; analysis and assessment of robotic system performance; identification and resolution of automation related process issues affecting biological sample production; and (5) Maintenance of organized, accurate records; independent troubleshooting with concise error reporting to scientific teams; exclusive use of the Laboratory Information Management Systems tracking system for sample and process traceability.
