The Lead Speech-Language Pathologist is under the direction of the Director of Special Education. This position is responsible for providing district-level leadership, guidance, and professional learning for speech-language services across South San Antonio ISD. The Lead SLP supports both district-employed and contracted Speech-Language Pathologists and Speech-Language Pathology Assistants by developing district guidance, leading professional learning, coordinating systems and resources, and supporting compliance with federal, state, and local requirements.
The role focuses on strengthening systems, ensuring consistency of practice, and supporting high-quality speech-language service delivery aligned with the district's educational model and IDEA requirements. The Lead SLP collaborates with district leadership, campus administrators, and related service providers to ensure effective implementation of speech-language services within the school setting. Qualifications: Education/Certification:
- Current Texas license in Speech-Language Pathology on file in the district office
- Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP)
- Master's degree from an accredited college or university
- Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by the employee
- Knowledge of IDEA, ARD Committee processes, and school-based speech-language service deliver
- Knowledge of compliance requirements related to related services in public schools
- Experience developing district guidance documents and training materials
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to support and coach adult professionals
- Proficiency with Google Workspace, Frontline/ ESped, and data tracking systems
- Minimum five (5) years of experience as a school-based Speech-Language Pathologist
- Experience in a leadership, mentoring, or district-level support role preferred
- IEP Compliance, Development, and Corrective Practices
- Support Speech-Language Pathologists and SLPAs in developing IEP goals, services, and documentation aligned with district corrective practices and compliance expectations.
- Assist with ensuring speech-related IEP components are standards-based, data-informed, and aligned across present levels, goals, and services.
- Provide guidance to speech staff on IEP alignment, service justification, and documentation expectations.
- Review trends in IEP-related concerns or findings and collaborate with district leadership to address training or systems needs.
- Support campus teams in strengthening speech-related ARD practices in alignment with IDEA and district procedures.
- Staffing Support, Scheduling, and Service Delivery Systems
- Collaborate with the Director of Special Education and Coordinators on speech staffing models, caseload balance, and coverage planning.
- Assist Speech-Language Pathology Assistants with the implementation, adjustment, and maintenance of service schedules to ensure alignment with IEPs.
- Provide campus-level support during speech staffing vacancies, including guidance related to ARD preparation and service verification.
- Conduct campus visits to support implementation and problem-solving.
- Notify principals and campus administrators of speech staffing assignments, changes, and coverage plans.
- Campus Support
- Provide campus-level support during speech staffing vacancies, including ARD preparation support and verification of therapy provision.
- Conduct campus visits to support implementation, problem-solving, and coaching.
- Notify principals and campus administrators of speech staffing assignments and changes.
- Contracted Staff Support and Oversight
- Support onboarding, access, and orientation for contracted Speech-Language Pathologists and Speech-Language Pathology Assistants.
- Serve as a point of contact for contracted speech providers regarding district procedures, documentation expectations, and service delivery systems.
- Coordinate system access for contracted providers, including Frontline/ eSped and other required platforms.
- Monitor contracted staff schedules, absences, and coverage in collaboration with district leadership.
- Assist with verifying licensure, credentials, and required documentation for contracted speech providers.
- Support service continuity during vacancies or transitions by coordinating coverage and communicating needs to campuses.
- Collaborate with district leadership to identify trends, concerns, or support needs related to contracted speech services.
- SHARS Documentation Support
- Assist with ensuring Speech staff submit required documentation to support SHARS billing.
- Provide guidance to district and contracted speech staff regarding SHARS documentation expectations, timelines, and required logs.
- Monitor documentation submission trends and communicate concerns or gaps to district leadership for follow-up.
- Collaborate with SHARS, Finance, and Special Education leadership to support accurate and timely documentation practices.
- MTSS and Pre-Referral Support for Speech Concerns
- Assist in the development and refinement of MTSS-related practices and district guidance for addressing speech and language concerns, collaborating with district and campus teams to align speech-language practices within MTSS frameworks and general education intervention systems.
- Provide guidance on pre-referral supports, intervention alignment, and data-informed decision-making related to speech concerns.
- Support alignment between general education intervention practices and special education referral processes.
- Inventory Management and Assistive Technology
- Coordinate the distribution, tracking, and inventory of speech assessment materials and assistive technology, including Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) devices.
- Maintain accurate inventory records for speech assessment tools and AAC devices, including assignment, condition, and return.
- Collaborate with campus staff and related service providers to ensure assistive technology is appropriately issued, supported, and accounted for.
- Communication and Collaboration
- Establish and maintain effective communication with principals, campus administrators, speech staff, and related service providers.
- Serve as a point of contact for speech-related systems, processes, and guidance.
- Participate and present at Special Education Department meetings.
- Attend conferences or community meeting meetings as appropriate to represent the district.
- Use effective communication skills to present information clearly and accurately.
- Other Duties
- Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
- Keep informed of and comply with federal, state, district, and school regulations and policies.
- Compile, maintain, and file required reports, records, and documentation.
- Attend and participate in meetings and serve on committees as required.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education.
