Recreation Program Coordinator (Austin Recreation Center/Austin Parks & Recreation)

About the Position Recreation Program Coordinator – Under general supervision, this position assigns, directs, and performs tasks in the development and implementation of recreational programs and activities within a facility or as part of a major program area. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Organize employees, contractors, and/or volunteers. Promote interest in recreational activities and represent the City with public groups. Plan, develop, coordinate, and schedule programs, activities, events, and staffing. Modify classes and workshops to accommodate individuals with a variety of disabilities. Manage and direct the daily operations of recreational facilities, activities, and/or special events. Coordinate Citywide events and cross-functional work groups. Design and create necessary marketing materials to promote programs. Recommend purchase of new equipment and coordinate purchase orders. Assist with and monitor the budget. Research trends and implement best practices for recreational programs. Transport and/or accompany program and event participants. Prepare and review payments, cash receipts, billing, or other accounting transactions. Provide leadership, work assignments, evaluation, training, and guidance to others as needed. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of principles and methods for developing, designing, and coordinating recreational programs, activities, and events. Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, and City practices, policies, and procedures. Skill in oral and written communication. Skill in handling multiple tasks, prioritizing, and working with frequent interruptions. Skill in using computers and related software. Skill in data analysis and problem solving. Skill in planning and organizing. Ability to design, create, market, and promote programs. Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with City employees and the public. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Recreation or a related field. One (1) year of experience related to the development and implementation of assigned programs (experience may substitute for education up to four (4) years). Licenses and Certifications Required Relevant CPR, First Aid, Water Safety Instruction, or other certifications as specified for the assignment. Texas Class "C" Driver or Commercial Driver license if required. Additional certifications for Aquatics assignments (e.g., StarGuard Elite Lifeguarding, CPR/AED, First Aid, Aquatic Fitness Professional, Certified Aqua Tech, etc.) within 90 days of assignment if required. Preferred Experience and Qualifications Experience developing, planning, and coordinating programs and curriculum for adults and seniors in a government or municipal recreation setting. Experience coordinating program instructors, contract oversight, and customer service. Experience managing large facilities and handling licensing and inspections. Experience supervising staff, scheduling, performance reviews, and timesheets. Experience in fiscal planning and operational budget management. Experience working with diverse populations and communities, public speaking, and interacting with varied backgrounds. Experience with RecTrac Activity/Registration software. Experience creating and producing promotional and marketing materials (e.g., flyers, brochures, social media). Ability to communicate fluently in English and Spanish. Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook). Ability to travel to multiple locations.
