Aircraft Worker

Overview Amentum is immediately hiring F/A-18 Plane Captains in support of U.S. Navy Aircraft maintenance operations at NAS Oceana, VA. The role requires working rotating shifts and travel for detachments ashore and afloat, including aircraft carriers. Candidates will become Plane Captain certified through a government-approved certification process. Responsibilities Direct incoming and outgoing aircraft near terminal or flight line parking areas to assist pilot maneuvering on the ground using hand or light signals and secure aircraft with chocks and tie‑downs. Perform aircraft flight line servicing, operate service vehicles to replenish fuel and oil, conduct pre‑flight through post‑flight inspections, and record maintenance actions. Check for fuel contamination by draining sumps and fuel drains; operate ground support equipment such as electrical power supply, tow tractors, and engine starting units. Examine tires for specified air pressure and condition, assist in towing aircraft, and clean exterior and interior of aircraft. Maintain hangar deck housekeeping and manage fluid spills using portable platforms, ladders, brushes, rags, water hose, cleaning compounds, and mobile vacuums. Work up to 7 days and 40 hours a week, with overtime based on operational tempo. Other Responsibilities Safety: Participate in emergency response tasks, complete all training requirements, and serve on safety committees and teams. Quality: Conform to Amentum Quality Policy, comply with Amentum Quality System documents, and understand Quality Management and Customer Satisfaction responsibilities. Procedure Compliance: Read, understand, and implement operational, safety, quality, and environmental requirements of all plans, procedures, and policies pertaining to the job. Qualifications Minimum Requirements: Shift work and detachments required both ashore and afloat (aircraft carriers). High School graduate or equivalent. Minimum two (2) years of recent organizational level aircraft maintenance experience desired. Valid Virginia or North Carolina Driver license (if North Carolina resident). Knowledge and use of special tools/equipment required to perform assigned maintenance tasks. Work performed primarily outdoors under all weather conditions with exposure to loud noise and exhaust fumes. Ability to read and interpret technical publications, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Self‑motivated and able to work with minimum supervision. Meeting physical requirements and passing medical examinations related to daily tasks. Ability to perform extensive standing, climbing, bending, and stooping. Approval from Contractor Verification system (7‑year background check) and Security Clearance for Public Trust. US citizenship required for facility credentials/authorization. Preferred Qualifications: F/A-18 Plane Captain, Brake Rider, Move Director. Completion of military aviation maintenance training or maintenance technical school curriculum, or possession of an FAA issued A&P license. Prior experience with U.S. Navy aviation on F/A-18 aircraft highly preferred. Compensation The hourly rate for this position is $35.36 per hour. Plus $7.80 per hour, up to 40 hours per week, for Health & Welfare.
