Field Welder

*** Must be willing to travel frequently. *** Wages: $135 - 250 Daily Per Diem (dependent on job location) Summary: Lay out, fits, and welds fabricated, cast, and forged components. Repair heavy equipment attachments such as buckets, dozer blades, moldboard, haul truck beds etc. Essential Knowledge and Skill Requirements: Weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions Operate safety equipment and use safe work habits Lay out, position, align, and secure parts and assemblies prior to assembly, using straightedges, combination squares, calipers, and rulers Examine work pieces for defects and measure work pieces with straightedges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications Recognize, set up, and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade, such as shielded metal arc and gas metal arc welding equipment Weld separately or in combination, using aluminum, cast iron, and other alloys Clamp, hold, tack-weld, heat-bend, grind or bolt component parts to obtain required configurations and positions for welding Select and install torches, torch tips, filler rods, and flux, according to welding chart specifications or types and thicknesses of metals Ignite torches or start power supplies and strike arcs by touching electrodes to metals being welded, completing electrical circuits Connect and turn regulator valves to activate and adjust gas flow and pressure so that desired flames are obtained Supervisory Responsibilities: None Basic Functional Job Requirements: Workers should be able to: Rate information using standards that can be measured or checked Work within precise limits or standards of accuracy Look at flat drawings, pictures, and blueprints and visualize how they would look as solid objects with height, width, and depth Completion of apprenticeship program and certification at one or more levels may be required. The ability to keep the hand and arm steady while making an arm movement or while holding the arm and hand in one position The ability to quickly make coordinated movements of one hand, a hand together with its arm, or two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects The ability o use one's abdominal and lower back muscles to support part of the body repeatedly or continuously over time without "giving out" or fatiguing The ability to exert muscle force repeatedly or continuously over time. This involves muscular endurance and resistance to muscle fatigue Physical Work Environment: Work in dusty or dirty surroundings May be exposed to/ required to handle hazardous material such as diesel fuel and similar petroleum products with PPE provided to minimize exposure May be required to work at night May be exposed to extreme heat and cold environments of a limited basis May be exposed to high altitude (12,000 ft plus) Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent educational attainments preferred One to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience Welding certifications are a plus Candidates that accept an offer of employment are required to undergo and successfully complete a pre-employment physical examination. This exam is essential to ensure that all potential employees meet the necessary health and fitness standards for the role. The examination includes a series of tests and evaluations conducted by a certified medical professional to assess overall physical health, identify any potential medical conditions that could interfere with job performance, and verify that the candidate is capable of safely performing the essential duties of the position.
