[2026-2027] School Operations Manager

Position Overview The School Operations Manager (SOM) is responsible for managing and executing smooth daily operations of the school. The SOM ensures core daily systems are effectively executed, student enrollment targets are met and maintained, facilities and technology systems are in good working order, daily student health and safety protocols are adhered to, and daily events logistics are executed as planned. The SOM reports directly to the Director of Operations (DOO) and manages the School Operations Administrator (SOA). Duties and Responsibilities Oversee key daily operations such as student arrival, attendance, transitions, lunch/recess, and dismissal, ensuring all processes run smoothly and efficiently. Maintain a fully staffed main office, replenish supplies, and ensure equipment and technology are in good working order. Manage the School Operations Administrator, setting clear expectations and conducting regular one‑on‑one meetings to monitor progress. Ensure student health and safety protocols are followed, coordinate with the school nurse and act as a member of the BRT for emergency or high‑urgency situations. Assist the DOO with special projects, system improvements, and escalated concerns, reporting progress and barriers for continuous improvement. Coordinate and execute events and field trips, ensuring they meet all safety and logistical requirements. Respond to stakeholder communication within 24‑48 hours and actively participate in enrichment activities when needed. Qualifications Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in school operations or a related field. Strong interpersonal skills and a collegial working environment; demonstration of core character traits such as zest, grit, hope, social intelligence, gratitude, and sense of humor. Thrives in a fast‑paced, high‑achieving, team‑oriented, and mission‑driven environment. Highly organized, resourceful, and able to manage multiple tasks with precision. Critical thinker, quick learner, and open to feedback. Proactive in managing critical deadlines and ensuring timely completion of responsibilities. Demonstrates resilience, flexibility, and innovation when necessary. Shows ownership and adaptability, embracing growth opportunities. Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office and school operations systems; computer literate. Excellent written and oral communication skills; effectively communicates with diverse backgrounds. High attention to detail and strong prioritization skills. Passion for and commitment to the KIPP mission; school‑based experience strongly preferred. Location and Travel This role is based in NYC and will require travel to our schools. If you relocate outside of a commutable distance or out of the state of New York, your employment will be subject to review, which may include separation from KIPP NYC. Compensation and Benefits KIPP NYC offers a salary ranging from $80,340 - $88,745.
