Registered Nurse (RN) Adult Congenital Heart Unit - ICU

Critical Care Registered NurseWe are searching for a Critical Care Registered Nurse – someone who works well in a fast-paced setting. In this position, you will provide nursing care to adult and pediatric patients with ICU care needs. Working in a Cross Coverage Care Model will afford you the unique opportunity to provide continuity care to patients with complex congenital heart disease at various stages within our Heart Center of Excellence.Patients with congenital heart disease need life-long cardiac care from pediatrics to adulthood. The learning opportunities are endless beginning with training on a variety of Ventricular Assist Devices (VAD's), Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO), Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT), hemodynamic monitoring, STEMI, stroke response, and pulmonary embolisms.Think you've got what it takes?Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in nursing, or an associate's degree and current enrollment in a nursing bridge program is requiredCurrent licensure with the Board of Nursing for the State of Texas or Nurse Licensure CompactCurrent BLS certification from the American Heart Association9 months of professional nursing experiencePreferred Qualifications2 years nursing experienceExperience in ICU, Intermediate (IMU/Stepdown,) CardiologyThe ability to demonstrate positive and appropriate interpersonal skills, good time and resource management skills, flexibility, strong oral and written communication skills, knowledge of unit-specific equipment, and knowledge of the nursing process, critical thinking skills, and interdisciplinary collaboration.As part of our commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy workplace, all successful candidates will be required to undergo respiratory fit testing in compliance with occupational health and safety standards.Responsibilities :Performs and documents assessment of the patient/family including biophysical, psychosocial, developmental (age-appropriate), culture, spiritual, and environmental needs in an organized and systematic mannerAnalyzes situations, anticipates potential problems, and detects changes in patient statusRe-prioritizes and updates plan of care based on new information and changes to the patient's condition; communicates this information to other health care team members and documents in the medical recordParticipates in interdisciplinary rounds and/or patient care conferences and documents in the medical recordAssists patients/family in implementing their role in the plan of care as appropriateAssess patient family learning needs capabilities, preferences, and readiness to learn prior to teachingDemonstrates positive and effective interpersonal skills when dealing with patients/families, visitors, peers, and other health care team membersAdministers and documents medications and treatments in a timely mannerDemonstrates willingness and ability to acquire new knowledge and utilize new skills needed to improve individual, team, and organizational performanceParticipate in unit performance improvement initiativesAbout UsSince 1954, Texas Children's has been leading the charge in patient care, education and research to accelerate health care for children and women around the world.
