Registered Nurse (RN) - Med Surg Tele

Position Overview

The Med Surg Tele RN provides inpatient care to adults on medical-surgical floors with telemetry monitoring. The role emphasizes rapid rhythm assessment, early detection of decompensation, and coordination for timely interventions.

The nurse collaborates with the care team to optimize stability, ensure accurate documentation, and support safe discharge planning.

Responsibilities

• Monitor patient status and cardiac rhythms; interpret rhythm strips and respond to abnormal findings.
• Administer medications and therapies per orders; manage IV access as needed.
• Assess and address clinical changes; escalate to the physician promptly.
• Coordinate with physicians, bedside nurses, and case management for individualized care plans.
• Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses in the EHR.
• Educate patients and families on condition management and planned care.
• Support care transitions and discharge planning based on clinical trajectory.

Qualifications

Education:

Associate degree in Nursing or Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited program.

Licensure:

Current and valid RN license in the state of practice.

Certifications:

• Basic Life Support (BLS)
• Telemetry certification or equivalent knowledge preferred

Experience or Skills:

Experience on telemetry-enabled inpatient units; strong rhythm interpretation and documentation skills; ability to manage multiple patients and priorities.

Experience

• Inpatient Med/Surg with telemetry experience
• Ability to recognize and respond to cardiac events

Preferred

• BSN preferred
• ACLS or other critical care certifications

Work Environment

Typical medical-surgical floor with telemetry; interactive rounds and standard hospital scheduling, including day and night shifts.

Documentation and communication are performed through the electronic health record and interdisciplinary team meetings.
