Commercial Plumber

This contract-to-hire role offers experienced commercial plumbers the opportunity to work on new construction projects, including hotels, warehouses, and medical offices in State College, Bellefonte, Altoona, Milesburg, and Williamsport, PA. You will handle all phases of plumbing installation from rough-in to finish work on high-profile commercial job sites, contributing directly to the successful completion of major builds.

Responsibilities

• Install, repair, and maintain PEX, PVC, copper, galvanized, stainless, and steel piping systems in commercial buildings.
• Perform complete rough-in and finish plumbing, including underground pipefitting, fixture installation, and final connections.
• Cut, thread, and assemble various types of pipes using appropriate tools, techniques, and equipment.
• Solder and braze copper pipes for water distribution systems to ensure durable and leak-free connections.
• Install and secure PEX tubing for water supply applications, including crimping and expansion fittings.
• Work with PVC drainage systems, ensuring proper slope, secure connections, and effective solvent welding.
• Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to plan and execute plumbing installations accurately.
• Ensure compliance with local plumbing codes, industry standards, and safety regulations on all job sites.
• Collaborate with contractors, project managers, and other tradespeople to coordinate work and complete installations on schedule.
• Perform troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repairs on plumbing systems as needed during construction and finishing phases.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area and properly use and care for tools and equipment.
• Communicate clearly with team members and supervisors regarding project status, issues, and material needs.
• Demonstrate dependable attendance, reliable transportation to various job sites, and readiness to work full shifts in a construction environment.

Essential Skills

• Minimum of 3 years of plumbing experience on commercial construction job sites preferred, with solid knowledge of all phases of installation.
• Strong hands-on experience with plumbing installation in new commercial construction environments.
• Proficiency in working with PEX, PVC, and copper plumbing systems, including water supply and drainage applications.
• Ability to cut, thread, assemble, solder, and braze copper pipes safely and effectively.
• Experience with PEX crimping and expansion fittings for secure and reliable connections.
• Familiarity with PVC solvent welding and proper installation of drainage systems.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings related to plumbing layouts.
• Capability to work both independently and as part of a team on active construction sites.
• Reliable transportation to travel to multiple commercial job sites as needed.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort working with tools, equipment, and various pipe materials.
• Consistent work ethic, reliability, and willingness to follow safety procedures and job site rules.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Commercial construction plumbing experience strongly preferred.
• Valid plumbing license or relevant certifications preferred but not required.
• Completion of trade school or a plumbing apprenticeship program preferred.
• Experience in new construction environments such as hotels, warehouses, and medical offices.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with other trades and project teams on large-scale projects.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail in planning and executing plumbing installations.
• Comfort working with galvanized, stainless, and steel pipe in addition to PEX, PVC, and copper.
• Ability to adapt to changing project needs and work across multiple job sites.
• Professional communication skills and a positive, team-oriented attitude.

Work Environment

You work on active commercial construction sites in State College, Bellefonte, Altoona, Milesburg, Williamsport, and surrounding areas, focusing on new builds such as hotels, warehouses, and medical offices. The role involves full workdays in a field-based environment with exposure to typical construction conditions, including varying weather, noise, and physical activity such as standing, bending, lifting, and working with tools and piping materials. You collaborate closely with other trades and project teams, follow all safety protocols, and use standard plumbing tools and equipment for cutting, threading, soldering, brazing, and installing PEX, PVC, copper, galvanized, stainless, and steel pipes. Attire is typical construction workwear appropriate for job sites, including any required safety gear and personal protective equipment.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $35.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
