Your Specific Responsibilities: Responsible for the supervision of staff including appraisals, planning and directing work, approving leave, and having the authority for hiring and taking disciplinary action or effectively recommending such actions. This is a Career Service COMMUNITY HEALTH NURSING CONSULTANT under the supervision of the OPERATIONS & MGMT CONSULTANT MGR – SES. This is a highly responsible school health position. The incumbent in this position is delegated the responsibility for the School Health professional and non-professional staff including the authority for hiring firing and disciplinary actions. Manages performance appraisals, plans and directs work assignments, approves leave/time sheets/travel and certifies EARs in accordance with DOH policies and SMART objectives. This position will serve as the multi-school manager directing and coordinating services and activities for school students of Hardee County and will serve as the primary information Custodian for School Health. This position is responsible for developing and updating the School Health Annual/Semi-Annual Service Plan as well as completing the annual school health report for submission to the DOH School Health Service Program according to School Health Guidelines and policy. Exercises independent judgement in formulation and maintenance of school health policies and procedures which have significant impact on personnel administration and budget. Plans and directs the operation of the School Health Program, including budget management, staff development, quality improvement and client satisfaction. Serves as a liaison with local School Board, as well as with parents of students in the district. The incumbent will be responsible for providing direct and indirect support and guidance for nurses, health support technicians, and workers for his/her assigned school(s). Plans workload, workflow deadlines, work objectives and time utilization with employees in the School Health Program. This position will be responsible to ensure nursing services are provided to students at assigned school(s) in accordance with the current comprehensive school health plan and for reporting activities and services provided at the school(s) as required for the completion of the annual school health report and for school health program budget oversight. The incumbent will be responsible for entering information into the computer programs within seven days to ensure deadlines are met. The incumbent will provide nursing assessments, counseling, and referrals to students following health screenings and for students in school(s) clinic(s). The incumbent is responsible for maintaining confidentiality per FDOH Information and Security Guidelines and will serve as a resource for students and parents for information and referrals within the community. This person will be responsible for providing nursing services in structured and unstructured environments working closely with students, parents/guardians, teachers, staff, administrators, and co-workers to promote healthy behaviors. This includes but is not limited to home visits, attendance at parent-teacher conferences, classroom presentations, participation in health fairs, providing information, referrals, and follow-up about student health. Provides or assists with health screenings, referrals, and follow-ups according to guidelines for each grade level. The following will include documentation, coding, and filing of pertinent information in the student’s cumulative health record. Works closely with guidance counselors, resource officers, and administrators regarding health status of students identified as high-risk or at risk. Functions as a health resource person in schools and community. Participates as an active member of the School Health Advisory Committee. Participate in staff meetings, in service training and educational workshops and conferences. Attend community meetings. Participate in review and regular update of clinical procedures and processes. This position may serve clients that speak only Spanish, Creole or other languages. It may require performance of interpreter duties, if bilingual. Performs other duties as requested by Supervisor. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of the use of medical equipment. Ability to prioritize workloads. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to communicate with others in writing and verbally. Ability to practice good work ethics including reporting to work on time, always wearing appropriate FDOH identification, treat others with dignity and respect. Ability to make decisions based on his/her educational preparation and experience in nursing. Knowledge to seek consultation from supervisor when needed. Knowledge of community resources. Qualifications: Licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse (RN) in accordance with Chapter 464, Florida Statutes or eligible to practice nursing in accordance with Florida Administrative Code 210-8.22 or 8.27 Valid Florida Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of employment.
