If you are considering working in certain states, you can begin the licensure process beforehand. Some states, like California, New Jersey, and New York, may take over a month to process, while others process applications quickly, often in a few days. Some states allow you to obtain an RN license in one day by visiting the state nursing board directly. Being part of the Nurse Licensure Compact, which includes 25 states, can make the process easier as it allows nurses to practice in any of the compact states.
