Level III NICU Ongoing Coverage Coastal New Jersey Opportunity

Are you an experienced Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) or Physician Assistant (PA) looking for a high-acuity, long-term locum tenens role? A major medical center located on the beautiful New Jersey shore is seeking a dedicated Advanced Practice Provider to support their Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. This position offers excellent clinical variety, a collaborative team environment, and a highly scannable, predictable schedule starting this summer.

Step into a vibrant, high-functioning Level III NICU where you will provide crucial patient care, manage high-risk neonates, and handle delivery room coverage.

• Clinical Scope: Responsibilities include daily patient rounds, comprehensive direct patient care, active provider support, and continuous compassionate communication with families.

• Required Procedures: Providers must be fully proficient and independent in critical neonatal procedures, including:

  • Umbilical line placements (UAC/UVC) and PICC line placements

  • Endotracheal Intubation

  • Arterial punctures and Peripheral IV (PIV) placements

  • Thoracocentesis and chest tube insertion

  • Lumbar punctures

• Patient Volume: Manage a highly reasonable patient load of 10 to 15 neonates per shift.

• Team Dynamics: Work alongside an integrated team of six dedicated neonatologists and four NNPs. You will always work with other providers and are not responsible for supervising other staff.

• Schedule: Highly flexible schedule requiring 2 to 3 shifts per week . Shifts are structured in 12-hour or 24-hour blocks, utilizing both day and night options (8:00 AM 8:00 PM and 8:00 PM 8:00 AM ). Coverage includes weekdays, weekends, and holidays.

• Technology: Fully integrated EPIC EMR system utilized across both clinical and hospital settings.

• Contract Structure: Standard hourly billing with strong built-in overtime protections (overtime applies after 12 consecutive hours in a single daily shift).

• Timeline: Long-term, ongoing assignment starting June 29, 2026, through December 31, 2026 .

• Travel & Housing: Standard travel and lodging support are available. However, the department highly prefers regional or local candidates who do not require commercial flights.

To maintain the rigid safety and clinical standards of this Level III unit, candidates must meet the following criteria:

• Experience: A strict minimum of 3 to 5 years of active experience working inside a Level III NICU is required.

• Licensure: Active New Jersey State Advanced Practice License (NP or PA) with valid clinical certifications.

• Clinical Autonomy: Complete confidence in performing the listed neonatal procedures and managing high-risk delivery room resuscitations independently.
