Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned)

• Provides health services to students.
• Provides health education to students, teams, and families.
• Promotes environmental health.
• Provides professional development on health related topics.
• Provide physical, mental, emotional and social well being of students.

Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications:

• Valid Illinois RN or LPN license
• Experience with special education students
• Excellent written and oral communication
• CPR & First Aid Certification

Essential Job Functions:

• Provides immediate first aid and school based medical care to students
• Participates in maintaining accurate medical records to ensure compliance with state mandates including immunizations, physical examinations, and medical conditions, and the related archival responsibilities
• Determine the impact of students' contagious illnesses and acting to prevent the spread of communicable disease in the school setting
• Screens for student health conditions that impact education
• Identifying and managing students' health concerns so they are ready to learn
• Acts as a liaison between home and school by communicating with parents regarding students' health and safety needs and developing plans to meet those needs at school
• Provides needed health education in the classroom so students are better prepared to deal with the many issues affecting today's young people
• Provides school staff with current information about students' health concerns and care on a confidential need-to-know basis
• Maintains up-to-date health records on student
• Maintaining confidentiality regarding all school and health-related issues
• Demonstrates a deep and thorough understanding of medical knowledge and nursing techniques
• Maintains communication with other nurses, teachers, other school personnel, and parents/guardians to enhance cooperative action, which will meet the health and safety needs of the students.
• Participates in the development of health related policies and procedures in compliance with state mandates and current health practices
• Understands characteristics of individuals with disabilities across the age range, including levels of severity and multiple disabilities and their influence on development, behavior and learning; with knowledge about the impact of language disorders, processing deficits, intellectual cognitive abilities, behavioral/emotional/social disorders, and physical (including sensory) disabilities on learning and behavior
• Understands the scope of his or her practice and seeks additional resources and assistance as needed to meet the individualized needs of students; seeks out professional development strategies to stay current on researched based instructional strategies, services and professional growth
• Maintains highest standards of honesty, integrity, and confidentiality and to advocate for students and families

Salary & Benefit Information:

• Pay ranges from $55,350 - $115,000 depending on education level and experience
• This is a 10-month, Monday through Friday position
