POSITION FUNCTION:

As a senior leader in Enterprise Risk Management (ERM), you will join a critical second-line-of-defense function responsible for defining the bank’s risk management architecture. 

We are looking for a Sr. Director to help lead as we transform our risk management practices to be a world-class competitive advantage.  The Sr. Director will lead and team with elite professionals to develop and test strategies that ultimately impact the bottom line.

Primary Roles and Responsibilities Include:

• Actively lead our strategic approach to transform Risk Management:  This will include:
  • Understanding strategic issues 
  • Oversee the development of project proposals, work plans, primary and secondary research, and qualitative and quantitative analysis.
  • Manage ambiguity and consistently seek to drive clarity amongst team, partners and key stakeholders.
  • Craft storylines that clearly articulate findings, insights, and recommendations.
  • Directly liaise and communicate with senior leadership to move the
  • organization to action.
• Thought Partnership:  Develop and maintain relationships with key business leaders to enable improved decision-making around go-to-market strategy.
• Team Leadership: Manage, mentor and support the development of less experienced associates on the team.
• Internal Leadership: Responsible for helping to lead and drive internal initiatives including but not limited to recruiting, staffing, diversity & inclusion, social activities, etc.

A successful candidate will:

• Build relationships with key business partners to advance Risk Management initiatives
• Advise business partners in identifying high leverage opportunities for more efficient or more well-managed risk management processes that improve customer experience and/or drive competitive differentiation, informed by line of business and enterprise business strategy
• Influence decision making across business units and functional teams
• Leverage executive forums and quarterly reporting to drive engagement with strategy
• Provide thought leadership and catalyze best practice sharing regarding research, strategy, and design, building Capital One’s internal customer experience community and expertise. 
• Drive cross-pollination and collaboration with other teams within the Enterprise Risk Organization 
• Promote the culture and values of Capital One and the Enterprise Risk Organization

CORE COMPETENCIES:

• Strategic leadership:  Develop business strategies that will drive growth, profitability, and competitive success for Capital One in the face of shifting consumer and regulatory demands
• Leadership: May manage and develop multiple analysts.  Coaching and mentoring associates with a goal of developing and retaining talent at Capital One
• Execution: Manage and sequence delivery of business intent, build business requirements and execute against the product strategy. Oversee multiple projects and programs concurrently
• Partnership:  Work closely with colleagues across Capital One including:  IT, Sales, Operations, Finance and others to drive improvement in quality, volume, service, and profitability  
• Strategic; analytic orientation : A proven track record of decision making and problem solving based on analytics. Conceptual thinking skills must be complemented by a strong quantitative orientation, given that a large part of the business is based on rigorous analytic marketing & credit risk management
• Strong business judgment, leadership and integrity: They should be a tenacious decision maker, able to bring a healthy, aggressive, yet responsible approach to business
• Solid people leadership experience: Ability to build and leverage the capabilities of a high-performing team, as well as business partners across the enterprise. They should foster innovation, drive critical decisions, hold business partners accountable, and be able to consistently deliver results
• Strong executive communication skills: Impeccable written and oral communication credentials, coupled with strategic influencing skills and the ability to drive agreement through intellect, interpersonal and negotiation skills
• Clear results orientation: display an intense focus on achieving both short and long term goals. They should be able to drive and execute an agenda in an uncertain and fluid environment

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree
• At least 5 years of experience performing quantitative analysis
• At least 5 years of experience performing qualitative analysis
• At least 3 years of experience performing people management
• At least 3 years of experience performing project management

Preferred Qualifications:

• Masters Degree
• 5+ years of experience in people management
• 3+ years of experience in product development
• 3+ year of experience in consulting 
• 3+ years of experience in financial modeling
• 3+ years of experience in economic forecasting

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

Chicago, IL: $245,100 - $279,800 for Sr Business Director

McLean, VA: $269,600 - $307,700 for Sr Business Director

New York, NY: $294,100 - $335,700 for Sr Business Director

Richmond, VA: $245,100 - $279,800 for Sr Business Director

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
