Medical Scribe Position Details: Department: PCMG-MAIN | Otolaryngology; Location: Phoenix; Shift: Mon‑Fri, Days, 8am-5pm; Category: Administrative Support; Posting #: 1019960; Employee Type: PRN. Position Summary The primary role of the Medical Scribe is to relieve the practitioner of clerical and secretarial duties; enabling the practitioner to focus more directly on clinical care. The scribe is an unlicensed, non‑clinical individual who does not examine patients or engage in patient care. Their role is limited to documentation and efficiency management for the practitioner. Must be able to travel to satellite offices (except Yuma). Position Duties Assist the practitioner in navigating the Electronic Health Record (EHR) and locate information per practitioner request (e.g., previous notes, reports, test and laboratory results). Accompany the practitioner during patient interview and examination, refraining from interjecting own observations. Document the practitioner‑dictated patient history, including history of present illness, review of systems, past medical and surgical history, family and social histories, medications and allergies. Document physical examination findings and procedures performed by the practitioner. Document results of laboratory and radiographic studies as dictated by the practitioner. Document correct timing of patient‑care related activities, including practitioner‑to‑practitioner communication, family communication and re‑examination of the patient. Ensure the practitioner reviews all documentation completed by the scribe when the patient encounter concludes, making necessary amendments and signing the chart. Make “chart rounds” with the practitioner to review patient status, delays, and any other care‑related issues. Ensure authentication occurs before the practitioner and scribe leave patient care area and that all orders for patient care are communicated by the practitioner. Perform miscellaneous job‑related duties as requested. Position Qualifications Education High school diploma or equivalent. (Required) Completion of college‑level courses or current healthcare student (mid‑level provider, nursing, healthcare administration, etc.). (Preferred) Experience Minimum of 2 years medical experience in a hospital setting or private practice. (Preferred) Experience and understanding of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, diagnostic procedures, pharmacology, and treatment assessments to the extent required to accurately transcribe dictated reports. (Preferred) Previous experience with or ability to translate medical abbreviations into their expanded forms. (Required) Experience in a surgical specialty. (Required) Special Skills Ability to multi‑task and communicate professionally, including writing routine reports and correspondence; proficient typing, spelling, punctuation, grammar, oral communication, and ability to summarize complex medical information clearly and concisely. (Required) Good judgment, organizational ability, initiative, attention to detail, being self‑motivated, discreet, tactful, and modest in performance of duties. Ability to perform basic arithmetic. (Required) Ability to learn and use all functions of electronic medical record software and transcription software. Demonstrate understanding of team approach to patient care and documentation. (Required) Punctuality and preparedness for all shifts and work‑related activities. (Required) Ability to check and respond to all correspondence in a timely manner. (Required) Excellent and legible penmanship.
