PlayStation Productions transforms the stories, characters and worlds of PlayStation into ambitious film and television.

Following the success of adaptations such as The Last of Us , our slate continues to grow—and we are looking for an accomplished creative and production leader to help shape what comes next.

As Director, Film & TV, you will oversee a portfolio of premium adaptations from initial concept through development, production, post-production and delivery. Working closely with Sony Pictures Entertainment, PlayStation Studios, franchise teams and leading creative talent, you will help turn globally recognised PlayStation properties into compelling entertainment for audiences around the world.

This is a senior individual-contributor role with significant autonomy, visibility and influence across PlayStation Productions and the wider Sony entertainment ecosystem.

What you’ll do

Lead projects from concept to screen

• Guide film and television projects through development, greenlight, production, post-production and final delivery.

• Evaluate scripts, treatments, pitches, cuts and production plans, providing clear and constructive creative direction.

• Identify new opportunities aligned with PlayStation’s franchise priorities and portfolio strategy.

• Keep projects progressing through key milestones with pace, focus and sound judgement.

• Anticipate creative, production and strategic risks and recommend practical solutions.

Champion creative excellence

• Provide senior creative and production oversight across multiple projects at different stages.

• Use your hands-on producing experience to navigate challenges and maintain creative momentum.

• Shape decisions across story, character, tone, world-building and production approach.

• Help identify and evaluate writers, directors, producers, showrunners, performers and other creative partners.

• Protect the integrity of PlayStation’s intellectual property while enabling each adaptation to succeed in its own medium.

• Balance creative ambition with budget, schedule, production and delivery considerations.

Build enduring franchises

• Partner with PlayStation Studios and franchise leaders to support the long-term vision for each property.

• Understand how individual screen projects fit within wider franchise roadmaps.

• Create new entry points for audiences beyond gaming while deepening engagement with existing fans.

• Balance the needs of individual productions with the priorities of the wider PlayStation Productions slate.

• Provide informed recommendations to support investment and prioritisation decisions.

Develop influential partnerships

• Serve as a senior day-to-day partner to Sony Pictures Entertainment.

• Build trusted relationships with filmmakers, writers, producers, studios, networks, platforms, agencies and other industry partners.

• Represent PlayStation Productions confidently with senior internal and external stakeholders.

• Bring together creative, commercial, production and franchise perspectives to enable timely decisions.

• Support selected entertainment and gaming partnerships where strategically relevant.

Strengthen how we work

• Collaborate with Legal, Business Affairs, Finance, Marketing, Franchise, Communications and other internal teams.

• Help establish consistent development and production processes, milestone reviews and governance.

• Give stakeholders clear visibility of project progress, important decisions, risks and dependencies.

• Support the continued development of a disciplined, scalable Film & TV portfolio.

What you’ll bring

• Extensive senior-level experience in premium film or television development, production or a studio environment—typically gained over 12 or more years.

• Hands-on experience producing premium feature films or scripted television through physical production, post-production and final delivery.

• A strong track record of developing and overseeing high-profile scripted projects across the creative and production lifecycle.

• Deep knowledge of feature-film and premium scripted-television development and production.

• Exceptional creative judgement and the ability to assess scripts, pitches, talent, packaging, production materials and cuts.

• Experience working closely with filmmakers, producers, creative teams and studio partners.

• Strong influencing and negotiation skills, with the ability to align people around complex creative, commercial and operational decisions.

• The confidence to lead high-profile projects without relying on formal reporting authority.

• Sound independent judgement and the ability to make clear, well-reasoned recommendations.

• Strong communication skills and credibility with senior executives and creative partners.

• A genuine passion for premium storytelling and the potential of PlayStation franchises to reach audiences beyond gaming.

Experience working with established franchises, major intellectual property or premium entertainment brands would be especially valuable. An established network across the film and television industry would also be advantageous.

How you’ll lead

Although this role does not currently have direct people-management responsibility. Your leadership will come through expertise, judgement, influence and ownership.

You will:

• Operate independently while remaining closely aligned with the VP, PlayStation Productions.

• Act as a trusted Film & TV expert and adviser.

• Bring clarity and momentum to complex, cross-functional projects.

• Make thoughtful recommendations across creative direction, production, talent and portfolio strategy.

• Build credibility with senior executives, filmmakers, producers and creative partners.

• Champion quality, thoughtful franchise stewardship, disciplined execution and collaboration.

At SIE, we consider several factors when setting each role’s base pay range, including the competitive benchmarking data for the market and geographic location.

Please note that the base pay range may vary in line with our hybrid working policy and individual base pay will be determined based on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location.

The estimated base pay range for this role is listed below.

$214,100—$267,600 USD
