Graduate Nursing Programs Adjunct Faculty - Academic Year 2026-2027

The College of Nursing invites applications for adjunct faculty in the Department of Graduate Programs to provide instruction and supervision in clinical settings for 2026-2027 Academic Year (Fall/Spring/Summer semesters.) The adjunct faculty member will facilitate student learning in alignment with course objectives, emphasizing safe, evidence-based nursing practice. The role is primarily clinical, with opportunities to teach across a variety of healthcare environments. Clinical assignment opportunities are available in multiple program tracks, including evenings and weekends. Adjunct faculty must have an on‑site presence and are required to engage in classroom, lab, simulation, and clinical‑based teaching, supporting the development of future nursing professionals. Adjunct faculty will join a dynamic group of nursing educators with a strong commitment to student success through innovative evidence‑based teaching strategies, interprofessional collaboration, and fostering an environment where every student feels valued and supported. This role requires regular, in‑person attendance at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, TN. Candidates must be able to travel to clinical sites as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of computer/audiovisual software and technology, including learning management systems and supplemental instructional platforms. Knowledge of evidence‑based nursing education practices. Knowledge of nursing accreditation standards. Knowledge of current healthcare practices including current technologies. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with a wide range of faculty, staff, students, and clinical partners. Ability to effectively engage and motivate students. Ability to work collaboratively with administration, faculty, staff, and clinical partners. Ability to engage in clinical teaching as per workload assignment. Ability to travel to clinical agencies based on workload assignment. Ability to travel to other campus sites for teaching as per workload negotiation. Required Qualifications Must hold an earned PhD, DNP, or EDD for didactic role or MSN for clinical practice role. Active unencumbered APRN and RN licenses in the State of Tennessee/compact or multi‑state must be obtained before hire date. Current national certification as a nurse practitioner within the population focus for teaching area. Minimum of two (2) years of current clinical experience as a board‑certified advanced practice nurse (APRN). Preferred Qualifications Expertise in Pediatrics and Women’s Health nurse practitioner concentrations. Physical Demands Engage in physical activities that may involve prolonged standing, sitting, walking, bending, stooping, squatting, pulling/pushing, climbing, and assisting students in a variety of clinical, laboratory, and simulation environments for up to 12 hours per day. Provide clinical instruction in healthcare settings of up to 2 – 3 clinical courses per semester, with each clinical lasting up to twelve hours per day. Occasionally lift and carry clinical teaching materials and equipment of up to 75 pounds. Demonstrate and model clinical procedures and techniques, which may require physical dexterity and stamina including, but not limited to, repetitive motions of wrists, fingers, and hands. Accurately communicate information related to student performance to students and other faculty members as indicated. Compensation & Benefits Compensation commensurate with education and experience. College of Nursing Overview The College of Nursing is part of the University’s Academic Health Sciences Center, which also includes the James H. Quillen College of Medicine, the Bill Gatton College of Pharmacy, the College of Public Health, and the College of Health Sciences. The College of Nursing is the largest in the State of Tennessee offering multiple tracks for students enrolled in undergraduate and graduate programs. The Department of Undergraduate Programs is home to over 45 full‑time faculty and 700 students across five (5) tracks including the Traditional BSN, Accelerated BSN (Johnson City, Kingsport, Sevierville), LPN‑BSN, and RN‑BSN/Dual Degree. The Department of Undergraduate Programs boasts a record of excellence with 60% of faculty holding specialty certifications and a strong record of collaboration and successful student outcomes. All programs in the College of Nursing are fully accredited by the CCNE.
