Job Summary

This role is for a Registered Nurse specializing in Pre-Operative and Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) services at a main campus facility in Ithaca, New York. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive, patient-centered care, managing patients through the critical phases of surgical preparation and immediate post-operative recovery.

The Pre-Op/PACU RN will be responsible for thorough patient assessment, intervention, and education to ensure optimal patient safety and comfort before and after surgical procedures. This position requires adaptability and a commitment to high-quality patient outcomes in a dynamic healthcare environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive pre-operative patient assessments, including medical history review, vital sign monitoring, and readiness for surgery.
• Administer medications and IV fluids as prescribed, ensuring patient comfort and safety.
• Educate patients and families on pre-operative procedures and post-operative care expectations.
• Monitor patients in the PACU, assessing for post-anesthesia complications, pain management, and recovery progress.
• Manage airways, administer oxygen, and monitor vital signs during the immediate post-operative period.
• Collaborate effectively with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare team members to ensure coordinated patient care.
• Document all patient care activities accurately and timely in the electronic health record.
• Respond to emergency situations and initiate appropriate interventions according to established protocols.

Required Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
