Full Time Cake Decorator

This is a full‑time position. Primary responsibility is to take excellent care of our customers by satisfying each customer’s needs and exceeding their expectations. This requires a defined level of product knowledge, food preparation skills, sales ability, customer relations skills, and cooperation with fellow associates to create an incredible place to work and shop.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

CUSTOMER SERVICE

Initiate interaction with customers on the sales floor and sales counter. Ask the customers questions regarding their shopping needs. Provide customers information needed to meet their taste and meal requirements. Follow through on customer requests. Demonstrate the highest level of customer service. Never be rude to a customer under any circumstance. Bring the customer’s request to department management if you cannot say "yes". Never turn down business. Make eye contact and smile at every customer. Speak to customers in a genuine, clear, and enthusiastic manner and ask if they found everything they were looking for. Reflect an appropriate business image to customers and visitors by maintaining a clean, neat, and tasteful appearance. Be reliable and punctual; report for work on time and notify supervisory staff at least two hours before an unavoidable delay.

PRODUCT PREPARATION AND HANDLING

Neatly decorate cakes and other bakery items and create party trays according to standards and customer specifications. Obtain or prepare food items requested by customers at counter. Bake, fry, broil, and/or roast poultry, pork, beef and other meats according to standards. Prepare, weigh, price, date, wrap, and package products according to standards. Operate all necessary equipment to effectively prepare and portion products according to standards and customer specifications. Comply with the Food Safety policy (RO-37) and ensure that all appropriate Fresh Foods products are properly refrigerated.

STORE OPERATIONS AND MAINTENANCE

Check temperatures of product, cases, and coolers according to standards. Stock and block product according to standards to maximize sales and minimize shrink, working back‑stock on a regular basis. Process close‑dated and damaged product according to standards. Check merchandising displays regularly and keep samples, displays, and shelves clean and well merchandised. Unload product from truck and place it in coolers according to Fresh Foods Receiving and Rotation standards. Keep counters and food‑contact surfaces clean at all times, wipe refrigerators, sweep and mop floors, and empty garbage. Perform light duties such as sweeping, cleaning, blocking, straightening, and emptying trash as needed during slow traffic periods.

HEALTH, SAFETY, AND COMPLIANCE

Follow all safety regulations and help keep the store free of dangerous situations. Inform store management immediately of all accidents or hazards and record them in the designated log. Handle, mix, and apply chemicals according to the Hazard Communication Program Manual. Maintain compliance with Health Department and Department of Agriculture standards and Harris Teeter sanitation procedures. Be flexible and able to perform multiple tasks, balancing direction with initiative.

TRAINING AND QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or GED; or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. At least 18 years of age. Complete company training including new hire orientation, food sanitation, customer service network, safety, food safety, and product knowledge. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, write simple correspondence, present information in small groups, and understand basic English communications. Mathematical ability to add and subtract two‑digit numbers using units of money and weight. Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills; willingness to participate in training and work with a team to increase customer satisfaction and sales.
