Field Service Technician – Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas Department: Machine Division (MAC) Employment Type: Full Time Location: Irving Holt CAT, the largest Caterpillar dealer of heavy construction equipment in the United States, is seeking an experienced Field Service Technician for the Dallas/Fort Worth Texas Region. The primary role is to conduct field service repairs on heavy construction equipment, including emissions, hydraulics, engines, transmissions, HVAC, and electrical issues on dozers, backhoes, front‑end loaders, and excavators. Standard hours are Monday through Friday 7 am to 5 pm, with overtime required. Must have a valid driver license, a good driving record, be able to obtain a CDL Class B, and maintain a DOT medical card. The incumbent is expected to model the following practices on a daily basis: Demonstrate alignment with the company’s mission and core business values Collaborate with key internal/external resources Participate in ongoing self‑development Essential Functions Diagnose and repair construction equipment using electronic and manual tools to determine failure Document all work orders properly Diagnose Tier 4 emission systems and EGR systems Work safely at all times and comply with all safety policies, company procedures, and standards Perform intermediate repairs and troubleshooting offsite with minimal supervision Disassemble and assemble components to CAT specifications, including removing and installing parts Test, adjust, and verify proper operation of all repairs and adjustments Prepare and complete job‑related documents, write service reports, order parts, and maintain clear customer records; access required databases Act as a team leader and mentor/co‑coach other technicians Participate in quoting work orders Operate equipment and vehicles with necessary licenses and certificates Maintain vehicle inspection records, daily inspections, and driver logs per Department of Transportation regulations Adhere to contamination control and HAZMAT rules and regulations Maintain all company equipment, tools, and vehicle in good, clean, working order Communicate job progress to supervisor and customer as needed Complete assigned jobs and tasks within flat‑rate time and re‑work standards Work overtime as required by workload and customer needs Complete all assigned Technician Training Path courses and safety training in a timely and proficient manner Project professionalism with internal and external customers, including personal appearance; may mentor lower‑level technicians Ensure regular and punctual employee attendance Perform other duties as assigned Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Diagnose and repair heavy construction equipment using electronic and manual tools Document work orders properly Diagnose Tier 4 emission, fuel, electrical, hydraulic, and EGR systems Know safe work procedures and practices, equipment and tool design, use, repair, and maintenance Intermediate knowledge of hydraulics, transmissions, engines, undercarriage, and electrical systems Proficiency with current computer software, related hardware, and machine electronic systems Exceptional customer service skills Intermediate diagnostic and troubleshooting skills – preferred CAT ET and CAT SIS Planning and organizing skills to prioritize work activities and plan for additional resources Operation and control of construction equipment or systems Equipment selection skills to determine the required tools for a job Clear and effective communication, both verbal and written Ability to operate crane and forklift, with required certifications/licenses Meet deadlines and work under fast‑paced, time‑constrained circumstances Operate hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, and mechanical repair equipment Make precise coordinated finger movements for small object manipulation Requirements – Education and Experience More than four years of heavy equipment experience (six or more preferred) Proficiency with CAT ET and CAT SIS 2.0 MSHA certification preferred Air conditioning certification preferred Proficiency in troubleshooting and diagnosing emission systems Travel Travel required with possibility of overnight stay Additional Requirements Valid driver’s license Ability to obtain a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and maintain an acceptable driving record Must own required tools to perform repairs Physical Requirements Move objects up to 80 lb; use abdominal and lower back muscles to support load over time without fatigue Frequent movement of materials or equipment weighing up to 80 lb Constant movement and use of limbs; requires good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina Ascend/descend ladders and equipment using both hands and feet with gradual or continuous progress Maneuver safely and work underneath equipment React to visual, auditory, and other signals, including alarms and instructions; visually inspect work regularly Work Environment Requires wearing common protective or safety equipment Regularly works outdoors around moving mechanical parts; noise level may be loud at times May be exposed to weather extremes (inclement weather, heat, cold, humidity) Exposure to small quantities of chemicals, dust, steam, high‑pressure water, and high‑speed rotating equipment Required to perform work in cramped spaces and/or high places #J-18808-Ljbffr
