As a Packaging/Labeling Supervisor at our Greenville, NC site, you will provide hands-on leadership for approximately 35–40 colleagues supporting three manual visual inspection (MVI) rooms within our sterile pharmaceutical operations. Your team supports multiple customers and inspects sterile injectable products, including liquid vials, lyophilized vials, and liquid syringes.
This is a highly visible, floor-based leadership role for someone who enjoys driving daily production, developing people, strengthening compliance, and improving how work gets done. You will ensure each area is ready to run safely and compliantly, reinforce strong documentation practices, and build greater ownership and accountability within the team.
You will also gain broad cross-functional exposure through regular partnership with Quality, Validation, Customer Service and other operational teams, creating opportunities to expand your leadership capabilities and grow within the organization.
A Day in the Life
Lead day-to-day operations across assigned manual visual inspection areas, maintaining a strong and consistent presence on the production floor.
Direct and develop approximately 35–40 employees, setting clear expectations for safety, quality, productivity, attendance, performance and accountability.
Assess daily production readiness, including staffing, batch status, documentation, systems, materials and other requirements needed to execute the production schedule.
Drive daily production priorities and coordinate resources across inspection rooms to meet customer commitments while maintaining quality and compliance.
Ensure manual visual inspection activities are performed in accordance with current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), approved procedures and applicable regulatory requirements.
Strengthen Good Documentation Practices (GDP) by reviewing production and batch documentation for completeness and accuracy and addressing recurring documentation errors.
Conduct routine self-audits of assigned areas to identify compliance, documentation and technique gaps before they become audit observations or downstream issues.
Promote right-first-time execution by coaching employees on inspection technique, documentation accuracy and adherence to established procedures.
Identify production, quality and compliance issues, escalate when appropriate, and partner with cross-functional teams to determine and implement effective solutions.
Coach, develop and motivate employees while providing clear, timely and constructive performance feedback.
Reinforce consistent application of procedures, policies and performance expectations while creating an environment of ownership and continuous improvement.
Support new projects, process changes and onboarding of new work, helping the team adapt successfully as business and customer needs evolve.
Identify opportunities to improve workflow, productivity, quality and operational performance and help implement sustainable improvements.
Partner closely with Quality, Validation, Customer Service and other functions to resolve issues and support successful execution for multiple customers.
Keys to Success
Education and Experience
One of the following combinations of education and relevant experience:
Advanced degree with 3+ years of relevant experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing, packaging, visual inspection or another FDA-regulated manufacturing environment; or
Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of relevant experience ; or
High school diploma or equivalent with 9+ years of relevant experience .
Relevant degrees may include Business, Management, Engineering, a scientific discipline or a related field.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Experience working in a cGMP/FDA-regulated manufacturing environment , with a strong understanding of quality, compliance and documentation expectations.
Demonstrated leadership experience in a manufacturing or operations environment, such as direct people leadership, team lead responsibilities or significant responsibility for leading teams and daily production activities.
Ability to lead a large frontline workforce, establish clear expectations, address performance concerns and hold employees accountable while maintaining respectful and effective working relationships.
Strong knowledge of Good Documentation Practices and the ability to review production and batch records for accuracy and completeness.
Ability to manage daily production priorities, staffing needs and competing operational demands in a deadline-driven environment.
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify issues, evaluate root causes and drive timely resolution.
Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across operations, Quality, Validation, Customer Service and other functions.
Ability to work independently, make sound decisions and appropriately escalate issues that may affect safety, quality, compliance or delivery.
Demonstrated initiative, adaptability and willingness to challenge established ways of working when opportunities exist to improve performance.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and experience working with electronic manufacturing and/or quality systems.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with manual visual inspection (MVI) of pharmaceutical products, particularly sterile injectable products.
Previous experience leading teams in pharmaceutical manufacturing, sterile operations, packaging, inspection or a similarly regulated production environment.
Experience with TrackWise and SAP .
Experience supporting new product, process or project onboarding in a changing manufacturing environment.
Experience with Lean Manufacturing or continuous improvement tools and methodologies.
Lean, Six Sigma or Project Management certification.
Work Environment and Schedule
This position is fully onsite in Greenville, North Carolina .
Regular schedule is approximately 6:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 6:00 a.m.–2:30 p.m. Friday .
Saturday overtime may be required based on production backlog and business needs. Supervisors rotate Saturday coverage, which is typically approximately 6:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. when required.
The position requires regular presence in manufacturing and manual visual inspection areas and the ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
Must be able to meet applicable visual acuity and color vision requirements associated with the manufacturing environment.
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and work in applicable production environmental conditions.
