Under direct supervision of the clinic supervisor, department practice specialist lead, and the general supervision of the clinic providers, performs work which requires specific knowledge and training in patient care duties within the Business and Professions Code of the State of California and the regulations of the Joint Commission of the Accreditation of Hospitals (TJC). These duties also include but are not limited to: all aspects of front office management, appointment scheduling, patient check-in, authorizations, accurate billing, payment processing, supply chain and forms management.

Back office duties require equipment management, environmental care functions, cleaning/disinfecting the environment. Requires knowledge of medical terminology, procedures, universal precautions and proper use of body mechanics. Position requires initiative, ability to prioritize demands and ability to work in a team environment. Position may also require various tasks which may include orthostatic, obtaining weight for non-ambulatory patients using a Golvo lift scale, LP sterile set up, witnessing consent forms, pre-visit planning, per charting, inbasket management, medication Prior Authorizations, ePA, Cover my Meds, filling in patient forms, faxing, scanning documents into Epic, uploading CDS into media.

Use electronic medical record software for patient charting, patient screening for medical issues, translation services (Bilingual English/Spanish), chart preparation. Occasionally float to other departments to assist

Minimum Qualifications

• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) OR Certificate of completion of a Medical Assistant training program.
• BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire date.
• Two (2) years or more of Medical Assistant experience.
• Prior Medical Assistant experience, preferably in a large, complex Healthcare system.
• Requires knowledge of medical terminology, on-line scheduling, universal precautions, and proper use of body mechanics.
• Demonstrated ability to take initiatives, prioritize demands and work in a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• At least 3 years recent (within past 6 months) experience as a MA in an ambulatory medical practice.
• Prior experience in a neurology or specialty practice
• Prior experience with EPIC electronic medical record
