Sous Chef

Sous Chef – Lebanese / Middle Eastern Cuisine

Balade, a busy Lebanese restaurant in the East Village, is looking for an experienced Sous Chef with Lebanese or Middle Eastern cooking experience to join our kitchen team.

We are looking for someone who is hands-on, organized, reliable, and comfortable working in a fast-paced kitchen.

Responsibilities:

• Assist the Chef with daily prep and kitchen production
• Lead the line and line cooks during service
• Make sure all stations are properly set up and ready before service
• Maintain speed, consistency, quality, and presentation of all dishes
• Coordinate tickets and make sure dishes for each table come out together
• Support and direct cooks during busy service periods
• Help with prep, grilling, sauté, fryer, cold station, and other stations when needed
• Maintain proper food handling, cleanliness, and sanitation standards
• Monitor pars and communicate immediately when ingredients or prep are running low
• Help train and develop kitchen staff
• Maintain a professional and positive kitchen environment

Requirements:

• Previous Sous Chef, Lead Line Cook, or strong Line Cook experience
• Experience with Lebanese, Mediterranean, or Middle Eastern cuisine strongly preferred
• Strong knowledge of grill and line service
• Comfortable leading cooks during a busy service
• Strong prep and knife skills
• Reliable, punctual, and organized
• Able to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
• Must be comfortable working alongside the team — this is a hands-on position

We are looking for someone who wants to grow with the restaurant and take ownership of the kitchen during service.

Full-time position. Competitive pay based on experience.
