Job Summary The Medical Laboratory Scientist I performs specimen processing, test performance, and reporting of waived and non‑waived test results under CLIA as defined testing personnel. Events include performing only tests authorized by the laboratory manager and within the laboratory’s procedures. Essential Functions Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling, processing, testing, reporting, and maintaining records. Ensure proficiency testing samples are processed identically to patient samples. Adhere to quality control policies and document all quality control activities, calibrations, and maintenance. Follow corrective action policies when test systems fall outside acceptable performance levels, identifying and documenting corrective actions or notifying supervisors. Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology or Laboratory Sciences required. Licenses: Medical Technologist (ASCP) preferred. Proven eligibility required. Experience: 1–2 years lab experience preferred. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Understanding of laboratory equipment operation, maintenance, repair, and analytic techniques. Ability to work independently, evaluate situations, and act appropriately. Multi‑tasking in a fast‑paced environment. Attention to detail and adherence to written protocols with effective issue communication. Teamwork, excellent interpersonal skills, and professional interaction with staff and patients. Basic knowledge of federal, state and accreditation requirements.
